Please remove if this isnt the place for this post but has anyone heard of this JUCO ? I know they had a campus in California at one time. I am not asking for this to turn into a bash-them session, just asking for any experiences that any coaches on here may have had with them. It sounds like their new AD comes from Independence CC (of Last Chance U fame) but I can't find out much else about them. www.cccollege.edu/michigan-njcaa-programI think a JUCO in Detroit would be a GREAT thing because there is a ton of a talent that just needs some academic support to move on but the picture on this website doesn't exactly sell me. I hope I am wrong and they are doing great things but I would love to hear about any coaches experiences with the Community Christian College branches which from my research are official members of the NJCAA .

We were supposed to play them but they ended up having to cancel because they had eligibility issues.

Interesting. I always assumed that every JUCOs was a public school.

If it’s anything similar to a program in Louisiana with a similar affiliation to the same mentioned California Community Christian school, I would not call it a community college or JUCO. Not in the sense that most are familiar with anyway. It is more of a program designed to “reclassify “ students- give them a chance to play ball for them while taking parttime online classes from the Community Christian College based in Redlands, California. That way, their “clocks” dont start and they still have their 5 years to play 4 eligibility. I would say in that regard it is more like a prep school— except I am not sure what it will be prepping anyone for. The credits seem to transfer mostly to Bible colleges or other theological institutions. The one in Louisiana was run by a guy who was a house painter, had a criminal record, and liked to coach football. The model seems to be to get kids to play for them and then “get them” offers and scholarships (wink wink) to naia DIII schools.

We might as well go ahead and just create a sport academy system like soccer has around the world, but make them multi-sport...I know there are objections and hurdles to even single-sport academies let alone multi-sport, but if we are already starting to bleed into that with stuff like IMG and the big prep schools, might as well...

Who would do it and why? MLB, the NFL, NBA, and NHL already have free feeder programs.

Coach the only way I can see off the top of my head, is to ban any big-time sports (or even just all sports) from being played interscholastically at the HS level, which would then create an incentive for the collegiate programs to (begrudgingly spend the money) to create these academies as feeder programs, as without those, there would no longer be any way for football, basketball, and baseball players to be prepared to go play college ball for the collegiate programs, and then eventually pro ball. Of course, the simplest, easiest solution is to just keep HS regulated, and ban academies/schools that exist mainly for sports, from playing schools that originally existed as academic institutions.

Of course, the simplest, easiest solution is to just keep HS regulated, and ban academies/schools that exist mainly for sports, from playing schools that originally existed as academic institutions. I will be honest, I can absolutely see positives to removing interscholastic athletics from the educational system. (I can see negatives too) Where I disagree with you is that the colleges would be the ones then creating the opportunities to play. I think in the US, the free market capitalistic economy would do just fine in creating that situation. Let's be honest, other than FOOTBALL, right now do the kids need a school based system in which to play? Regarding the highest levels of competition, "country club" sport club competitions such as swimming, tennis, golf as well as club volleyball and soccer, and AAU basketball and track are superior to their HS counterparts. I imagine the same might be true with travel baseball/softball, and if it isn't it would not take much effort to make it the case. In my opinion the issue with these new "reclassification" type programs like the one in Louisiana to which I referred is that they are selling kids on opportunities that probably aren't in the best interest of the kids/families. Call me a dream-killer, but I don't think it is in the best interest of a kid to spend any time/effort on these bible school online colleges to showcase themselves in hopes of an "offer" to a school that reduces their tuition liability from $40,000 a year to $30,000 a year. I think these programs are an offshoot of social media's impact on recruiting. Kids desperately want to post "blessed to receive an offer from _____" on their social media. When I was digging into the Louisiana program I mentioned, I came across kids being "blessed to receive" offers to join CLUB TEAMS at a University.
