I have a position that I love were I am at. Good kids good town. Not very competitive in football. The new potential position is in a more competitive area, a bigger school, brand new field house and practice feilds and a much higher coaching supplement. There are good people there. I have just gotten attached to were I am at and am wondering would you make the move? Thank you for your insight.

What does your family think? Also, you say that the team isn't very competitive. How competitive is the school board? Is there a possibility of getting fired in the future?

It is really close to my wifes family. I dont't see the school I am at going anywhere anytime soon. Like I said before I love were I am at but it is going to be pretty much the same job I am doing here. It is just hard to leave something you have built up.

Well, let's review. Your wife, I guess, wants the move. The new job has better players, better facilities and better money. You seem to like the people at the new school. I can understand that you've built up the program but it sounds like you've taken it as far as it will go. Will you be comfortable there forever if they remain noncompetitive? Suppose they stay noncompetitive and you decide that you want to move. Will you have the same opportunities? Is there any reason to believe that you won't like your new job or town?

Great points. It almost seems a no brainer. Just tough to leave.

These decisions are not easy. Many factors - already discussed - including wife, kids, money, location, and professional ambition and desire have to be considered. Yes you make the big time where you're at (I've quoted that to another coach on this board!) but you've also got to take care of yourself. If you are not happy at your job, no one around you will be happy. Look at the new opportunity from all possible angles - if it is the BEST situation for you and the family, then say a sincere Thank You to everyone at your current job for helping you to be in a position to improve yourself. Good Luck.
