Looking at fundraisers for the coming year... Lift-a-thon, some sort of product sales, spaghetti dinner, etc. All are pretty typical. Another one came to mind - and when I mentioned it to my kids, their eyes lit up. A Madden tournament. Is it feasible ? Do you guys see any major snags or problems ? Any advice or insights ?

We do a Super Bowl, NCAA BBall, and CFB playoff final 100 squares board. Really easy when using venmo.
$25 a square we profit $1000 per board.

When I was a head coach the catholic schools in the area had a casino night fundraiser and made a killing. I asked the admin if we could do something similar and was absolutely shutdown on anything gambling related.

I'm actually referring to a Madden video game tournament. I should have been more clear.

Best and easiest fundraiser we did last season was draft a generic letter to local businesses asking if they want to sponsor our Program.
Any business that sponsored us received a Team picture with the businesses logo on it and we also thanked them on our Program's social media.
We told each kid to hand out a minimum of 3 letters to local businesses. These could be a friend or family member's business, their own place of employment (e.g. fast food restaurants or grocery stores), or just a random business. We were shocked at how much money some business donated.

Most businesses build in this donation to their yearly budget, and it is a matter of who asks first.... football team, boy scouts, Shriners, etc....

I'm actually referring to a Madden video game tournament. I should have been more clear. I'm assuming since the kids were excited that you'd have plenty of takers.... but how much money will the kids pay to play? Are you going to do pledges/sponsorships for each participant? We've done a Madden tourney as a team building thing.... not for fund raising. Beyond the money side, you have to have rules as to how the kids select the team they play, what the time limit is, have a dispute committee and what the only things to be disputed, what is considered 'cheating', etc..... just like you do for a strength meet/7 on 7/softball tourney/etc...

I printed up a nice full-color certificate on the school’s printer, we put the certificates in some nice-looking (but cheap) frames, and then invited the business owners to come to a home game where we would recognize them and present the certificate. I would also take out a 1/4 page ad in the local newspaper and thank all the businesses that participated. I would get a list of businesses from the Chambers of Commerce of each municipality in our district and send out a letter to each. I usually got about a 30-35% return on the letters and after expenses, would usually clear about $3,000.

Does Applebee’s still do the Saturday morning pancake breakfast fundraiser?
Guaranteed at least an 80% return for about 2 hours of work.

But even though we are the inner city school of our county, we have a significant upper middle class/upper class clientele. We have a program model/pitch.... I.E. we tell the sponsors what we are doing for the city/community with the kids in our program and what we need in order to implement that program. From there were are simply asking said donor to fill said slot on the list. From a program perspective, we want for noting. The fund raising is for the extras/the thing that makes us 'special'.

It can be done I’m sure. Have a prize for the winner and sell concessions.
Depending on how many people you will need multiple TVs and consoles.
Some business may sponsor it- maybe get them to pay for a trophy or give a gift card or something as the prize.
Doubt you’ll make big $ but you can make $ without spending any.

We currently us an App called Blast Athletics. It has worked great for us. I've been running it for a couple of years now. On average I raise about 30K. We have about 100 players in our program. It takes me about 2 hours to get the schedules, forms, etc, set up time. Players create accounts and put in phone numbers of people who they think will donate money. That's it. One of the easiest ways for us to raise money, also works as out team website and a easy way to communicate with players and parents. www.blastfundraising.com/

We have a fundraiser that follows NCAA. You just sell tickets and profit. Your supporters can win cash prizes! It's different and fun! It's the Basketball Slam Fundraiser. You can learn more here: greenbeefundraising.com/basketball-slam/
