Because it mostly just stresses me out. It can be fun once it gets going, oh man is it a lot of legwork and stress to get it planned, at a time of year when I'm already needing a break.

I just let the Boosters plan it all.

When I was coaching at my high school, we had a "manager" take care of pretty much everything off the field. He was just a football dad that loved supporting the program, so he planned, organized, and set up everything. The coaches just gave him notes about what they wanted. We were a lucky staff in that respect.

Yes. Delegate stuff out. Celebrate your seniors and the team. It is important whether you enjoy it or not.

To be clear, I wasn't suggesting I wasn't going to do it... It's tonight and all planned.

Not in the least. And besides the meal, the kids hated them too. They're entirely for parents.

Really don't like them until they actually happen. Don't like planning them, getting ready for them, thinking about what I will say, etc. But for the 1.5 to 2 hours that they banquet actually happens, I enjoy it.

One year when I was HC, we let the players decide. They wanted one without the parents. The underclassmen were not happy the next couple years when we had a banquet and invited the parents.

That would have been fantastic. I would have enjoyed that banquet. Every banquet I ever had, someone left pissed off. The most enjoyable banquet I had was a year we went 0-9.

That would have been fantastic. I would have enjoyed that banquet. It was great. We had a simple meal, watched highlights, gave out awards, and then talked about the next season with the underclassmen. It was very informal. We actually had to kick the players out because they didn't want to leave. Then when we had parents, we had to have an agenda, programs, etc. Everybody wanted to leave as soon as possible.

There is a reason for assistant coaches, program friendly parents.

The last two years that were COVID impacted we had players and coaches only. Brought in wings and pizza from local restaurant.
Put awards on the table for players to pick up. It was awesome.

I hate the banquet. If I delegate, it ends up costing me thousands. Do I end up doing everything, but decorating and I hate it.
