Subjective. And subjectively you are not right or wrong. Just a matter of preference. If you know what you are doing, and as a head you are training your staff, its really not that big a deal. If you waited till sat or sunday to do your stuff, LONG DAY. But the people who figured it out, it was not a thing. There isn't a chance in hell that I'm coming in at 6 AM on Saturday and Sunday for a $2000 stipend. I guess you just don't want to #grind #forthekids #divorce

I wont do it again for less than 10k. And you dont get that in nice private or public schools or in uppity-ville. Three of us would have the following weeks game broken down yesterday. And in about 45 minutes. Game breakdown wasnt hard. Formation Motion Shift D&D Hash Run/pass Front Play Coverage Result Notes
Practice tape was even easier cause we had the script. Bim bam bang.
There, it was 30-45 of bitching about kids, this, that or the other, and watching the tape, doing the depth chart, talking about the coming practice. If we did am practice. A DREAM. An hour and ten minutes at most. Send the kids to the showers, we did not tape cause there would be nobody at that hour.
Game planning maybe 45 minutes but most of it was already known, and most just ideas that quickly added or dismissed. Special team game plan maybe 10 minutes. But that has been discussed long before. Then we had everything drawn up. So all we had to do was staple it and, pointlessly, hand it to the kids.
Cut out the gossip and lectures, and non sense. Pretty good way to do things.

That I love a spread offensive coordinator throwing to an outnumbered receiver and scream at the kid that he “has to make somebody miss!!” Fukin clown Went to my son's football banquet Thursday. His coach had a great line- "in the old days you could line up and just run the ball and win games. Football's changed. You can't do that anymore and be successful. We'll probably throw more next year." They went 2-7 and scored 2 TDs after week 3. Meanwhile, the team that won the conference and is playing in a semifinal today plays primarily out of a double tight wing t/double wing set and runs 85% of the time.

Luckily we had a D1 commit at QB this year, but when we dominated teams on the field offensively was because we ran the ball so well.

Man, by that description, it almost sounds like you're saying you wasted a lot of time... I can understand how you can say that. But the bigger waste of time is things like zoom, text,. Dog barking, door bell rings, kid crying, food is done, food is being cooked, lost the phone, internet goes out, bf/gf fighting, going to get the mail, sportcenter, porn, some game is on, whatever. And their stuff still not done. That spit does not fly. and it is waste of time if you have your spit done, but remember human nature is involved. There were always coaches who waited till the weekend. And then if you are going to say something, you are going to say it out in the open in front of everybody, and you better not say it as a second guess on game night. You cannot hide it in a text or behind you did nott really mean it. Then on top of that, if coaches are not involved with the players, and you are not actively discussing it daily, you will get caught with your pants down. He weaponized the depth chart/playing time…as every coach in america should in my opinion. If you do not run the team outside of practice and games, you have no culture. Or you have terrible culture.

He weaponized the depth chart/playing time…as every coach in america should in my opinion. If you do not run the team outside of practice and games, you have no culture. Or you have terrible culture. We had 3 Coaches total in our program 2 years ago and that was for 6-12 (had 26 in jr high, and 37 in High School). We made school history in overall wins, wins in the playoffs, overall defense, and finishing runner up in the region. We did jr high thru varsity. We did not have extra coaches able to focus on the next week's games while we watched film on this week's opponents. HUDL Assist does almost all those things you are breaking down, and would have it broken down for us, and after about week 5 it was usually done in about a matter of seconds. All our coaches were married with multiple kids, just like everything in life, what works for one may not work for others. Like you said, you're not right, nor wrong. Sounds like you are at a large school with 5+ coaches on your staff, guessing most are not married and from the sounds of it you have a good number of decent football players on it if your able to legit threaten kids with playing time with everything yall do. Spending all day Saturday and Sunday, while coming in at 6am during the week seems to work for y'all, and that's awesome, and as long as it does keep doing you. In your words...That spit wouldn't fly around here. 1-we would probably have been 3 divorced coaches lol if we did that and coached all three levels in the process, plus we would not have the energy to meet that much. Two-I'm just not a 6am guy, I'm a late night guy, that early in the morning is when most people get cussed from me lol. Some places only have very few coaches, and don't even have enough decent football players to even have a scout team that won't get hurt, so competition for playing time is sometimes not an option. Sometimes with injuries you're just trying to find kids who won't get themselves or their teammates hurt playing on Friday nights. Those same coaches were also coaching the middle school, the jv, and the varsity team. So saying Zoom/Google Meets are a waste of time, they were a necessity for us. We could be at home with our families, but also meet with our staff and our players if we had to after a jv game on monday, or a middle school game on tuesday. We could meet with the kids over the weekend even if they or us were on a trip. If our coaches needed to meet at 10pm when all our family were asleep, that's what we did as well. That other waste of time that you talk of: dog barking, kids crying, cooking food for family, wife hollering for you to do something for her...that is just extra to help us to stay focused on Friday night when crap hits the fan lol. While others who may have worked hrs upon hrs upon hrs trying to come up with a magical game plan while sitting in a quiet office and perfect it with their players may struggle cause they worked nothing but their game plan all week with no chaos lol. Again, what works for one, may not work for others. If that works for you, keep doing it, and don't worry about it.

I get it in the NFL -- it's basically impossible to create big plays consistently on the ground. Defenses are really good at containing and tackling. If you want to win, you have to throw. In my last high school job I tried to throw it around, too. But whenever I needed a play I just put the best kid on the team at QB and ran Q Power. We practiced it maybe 5 minutes a week, on average. "Stand there and run there," the end. The Packers can't line up in double wing and win a super bowl, but if I ever go back to HS I'm for sure doing some variation of that. If you can tackle me well for 4 quarters, good on you.

The Packers can't line up in double wing and win a super bowl They may want to give it a shot, they're not getting anywhere with their current system.

I learned the value of passing the ball. I was a grumpy Dc who became AD that wanted to run the ball. Made an historic run at my new school.....needed to be as good as possible throwing and running to beat superior teams.
