Going in the program/general procedures manual on this one "Make sure all scout cards are drawn from the perspective of the players viewing them" It's all the little details like this. One penny ain't much but 100 pennies makes a dollar... Well, we already have it on our program manual on page 1,827. If you'd give me a call I can tell you about how Darrell Royal used to set up his cards and why he was wrong. Sorry if that triggers bad memories for you lol

I just liked seeing how incredibly narcissistic and egotistical he was.

I am reading Bootleggers Boy right now and Barry Switzer talking crap about Darrell Royal is actually pretty funny. People say things are out of hand now but Royal was making public requests for Switzer and staff to take polygraphs about recruiting improprieties and Switzer did a secret on and released it publicly. Then Royal claimed it was bogus. The whole ordeal is hilarious!!!!

That guy was nuts As someone who probably had as many if not more confrontations with him than anyone else- I have come to the conclusion that he is simply an aging man struggling to come to grips with his increasing irrelevance.

I’m not talking about his presence on here. I’m talking about when he would attack you through your email outside of this website if you disagreed with any of his thoughts. THAT was crazy

THAT was crazy Absolutely, but I think that still falls under my description. He couldn't handle the fact that his opinions were accepted as ironclad truth. In other words, he couldn't handle he was becoming more irrelevant. Very similar to a certain reality show star/political leader. Prone to just lash out. I am fairly certain he posted replies such as "Well how many followers do you have" several times.

I’m not sure if this qualifies as a pet peeve, but coaches who have a “brand” or a “theme” for their team always elicits a reflexive eye roll. Especially when the programs are not particularly good or the branding is clearly window dressing that is not followed through with.
My thought always is that if guys like this would spend as much energy into coaching up scheme and getting the right players in position instead of thinking up trendy acronyms, they would probably win more games.

I definitely get annoyed at the coaches who don't come to the office for a practice plan and are then just doing whatever is going on for the whole practice Shouldn't this only happen once? If it happens twice then it's on the HC.

Each D stood for a word that I have long since forgotten but they were probably words like Discipline, Devotion, etc, etc. It sounded great. The problem was, the “program” was nothing more than a 1 page Google doc that got printed out, posted in the weight room, and then promptly ignored by all the players. He was one of those guys who viewed himself as a “builder of men” but it was largely all in his mind. At the end of the day, it’s ok to just be a football coach.

Definitely have to have the personality for that to be reciprocated by the players. One can be passionate about that all they want, but if they don't have the personality for it, the players will tune them out, or even get annoyed...
