Adding another:
"Don't worry, that's what the pads/helmet is for."

My biggest pet peeve is when kids leave their helmet unattended on the sideline... for some reason it drives me crazy We refer to them as "Anklebreakers" for a reason!

My biggest pet peeve is when kids leave their helmet unattended on the sideline... for some reason it drives me crazy The reason might be that if you need him to go into the game all of a sudden (injury, personnel package, etc.) and he can't find his bonnet - he's not ready to play and not worth the Delay of Game penalty?

Absolutely... Especially at the youth and middle school levels because there's a good chance that expensive helmet will disappear... Our rule; if we pick up ANY of your gear at ANY time, you're running for it. Otherwise, the kids think we're a maid service.

Guys that are absolute Twitter/Facebook "culture" guys, especially the first year assistants. Just learn the game from your mentors and peers, watch film, coach your kids, share their successes, and celebrate the school/community. Hate lectures on commitment, veiled tweets and "what the lion does in the morning".
Ridiculous position names. "We return our phaser, smoker, bobcat and bomber, but we still need to find a crash on defense".
Calling a timeout before a punt if you have 10 on the field. Take the delay. You're giving the ball away anyway and the timeout is more valuable than 5 yards.

Players loosing pieces of their equipment...especially knee pads...seriously, where do those things go? And don't even get me started about mouthpiece. Equipment-related: Kids who show up for games wearing a fashion accessory that they've repeatedly and categorically been told not to wear.

Gassers, half-gassers, or any variation. I know I am over-simplifying, but nothing screams "football shape" like running over 200 yards at a time. And then coaches wonder why there are so many shin splints and soft tissue injuries. I was an OLine and in great shape but I could not run those dang gassers

When I played we had a strict you cannot take off your helmet rule without permission (even on gameday) for this very reason. Probably a bit extreme, but I get it now being older and wiser.

I'm the only "badger" on the field or whatever. It's dumb, but does create some buy in.

I've seen coaches lose points-games because they used a time out to decide whether to go for it on 4th Down or not. Make that decision-what you're going to do and call BEFORE 3rd Down Play! Almost as bad as calling a TO when the clock is already stopped (after a 1st Down on offense or ball was OOB). Cardinal sins in my opinion.

For whatever reason a lot of the offensive guys don’t want defensive coaches to have their best athletes, their football or their timeouts. I’ve been two places where I tried to grab balls out of the ball bag and the HC/OC has said “Coach those are good balls we only use those on offense.” Nothing says defense is second class citizen like not letting us play with your favorite toy. I get there’s probably some good balls that you want to save for a game or whatever but if the effing receivers are using those balls for their drills, then I feel like they will be safe at the end of our db drills as well.

Usually from some guy who probably missed practice the day before but found time to do his 3 mile hike and post about it.

The last guy with the uninvited dry erase marker.
You know, that coach after you diagram a scheme that stands up and says "that won't work....all you have to do is........" and proceeds to draw out the University of Oklahoma's current third down package with 6 audibles triggered by 3 reads depending on the color combination given by the WR coach.

Hell no you're not using our good, brand new Wilson GST. You get the Spalding Alpha that goes flat in 5 seconds and the Spalding J5V that you can't grip!!!!!

Our DB coach throws in pregame. He gets his arm loose to throw balls in DB pregame time.

I wouldn't know...they ones the relegate to us no longer have markings. I am offensive linemen at heart so I don't even know any ball besides the GST and I only know that one because I had to buy them when I was a head coach. But I don't want to see captain facemelter throwing his visor and tugging on his belt clipped call sheet when we drop an interception.

Coming into Sunday meetings and discussing all the fancy new passing concepts we can run against the opponent that week. Then we practice them a couple times and call them a few times in a game for them not to work at all. Rinse and repeat the next Sunday.

coaches that fail kids with a 69 We went from an administration that did not care about that at all, to one that calls you into the office for any student that has between a 65-69 in class. it's a money thing now but it was also a ----you are a coach----tell me and I will make sure they do right

You're giving the ball away anyway and the timeout is more valuable than 5 yards. I feel this. I've been brought into some of these circles this past year by other coaches I've worked with over the years (mostly in hopes of networking more), and while I think I stay out of the "smuggy" crap well, I can feel that temptation to just give in and be one of those guys who's commenting on everything. I mostly get irritated because most of these guys are coaching 8-10u football and are asking for "plays to run from empty" or show a formation and ask "what plays should we run?" Or "How can I run RPO's with my team? My QB and WR's are studs...they're 8." or "How do I get my team to play tougher and take practice more seriously...they're 8 btw." The urge to just call them out for being self-centered jarhead coaches is strong. I don't want to become someone like that, but I am also super talkative and LOVE teaching this game and the coaching aspects whenever I can (particularly how to just play simple). I'd love to find a way to process and use that energy more, especially for knowledge that falls outside of the team I coach.

I'm not a football coach any more but I am a PE teacher who teaches a couple weight room classes in addition to my regular junior high and high school PE classes. The football players not taking care of the locker room really bothers me. We have great facilities but our kids are pigs. The locker room is always dirty, there's trash and used tape left on the floor, and clothes and equipment strewn everywhere. I just think it's disrespectful and shows a lack of attention to detail.
Same thing with the weight room. It burns me up when I open up in the morning and whoever used the weight room last the previous afternoon or evening didn't put stuff back where it's supposed to be.

Hell, just punt. 5-6 guys on the average punt team don't do anything anyway. Personally, I avoided this site by not punting. Edit- that should say situation, not site. Stupid fat fingers...

I once had a guy ask me how we ran boot pass. I drew it up. He then told me there was no actual way we ran it like that, tried to lecture me on how I should run it, and ended up calling our offense stupid for doing it that way. I just said, we averaged 45pts a game, went 11-1 and averaged about 20yds a boot pass, but thanks for your advice.

Players loosing pieces of their equipment...especially knee pads...seriously, where do those things go? Given the size of current knee pads, I can see how they lose them. My son's fell out in the washing machine and I legitimately thought some padding from a bra of my daughter's had fallen out.

1) Sloppy fat coaches telling kids they need to be in better shape 2) Coaches telling kids to change out of a hoodie under their pads in cold weather because it’s “soft” while wearing a full body sweatsuit themselves That is all #1 is people making pet peeve lists.

This one really annoyed me: Before practice I'd set up my assigned area for my drills- balls, cones, and bags. When indy time came sometimes stuff would be missing or moved. Irritated the hell out of me.
