Lots of things are cooler than am STD. Just saying Our kids say STD for special teams drills. They came up with that one in their own.

OK, maybe that's why I've never heard of it. I don't understand why there's a call for it instead of just saying, "Turn around". "Riverside" is cooler.

I have never heard this term in my life. Must be a Southern thing. Seconded. It is not a southern thing. I live in the Midwest and heard it for the first time in college, and use it myself.

FWIW, I'm in the Pacific Northwest and we use that term to flip a drill. I've never lived in the south.

Well, we started sounding it out, aaaaaand it became an inside joke on staff and we stopped using it as a designator in front of the kids.

Why is it called RIVERSIDE when you switch sides? I’ve heard it attributed to former Tenn Vols HC General Neyland. It had to do with the river right next to the stadium. I believe you can find this in an article on The Athletic about Johnny Majors or him. We always used that term as far back as playing in HS and college for myself and I still use it today in Michigan.

I stand corrected my Special Teams coach uses it all the time. I never noticed. He said he got it from his HS coach at Amityville HS. Amityville HS on Long Island, NY is one of the oldest playing teams in the state that had some legendary old timer head coaches. I am sure those old timers picked it up somewhere and brought to Long Island. That is the first time I have heard it used on Long Island.
