Down seasons

To be fair, many of the AD gigs are a miserable PITA the few people want these days. I've seen that job turn into an ugly, middle management position where the powers-that-be want you to be an "administrator" when it's convenient for them. And, "convenience" can mean going right under the bus right with the coaches. We're getting a lot of bureaucrats in those positions now because of this.

Ready for the update on the teams: One of the 2 ends the season 0-9 and loses more kids during the season, suspensions, kicked out of school, injuries you name it...just bad.

The other team goes on. winning streak at the end of the year and beats the team it needs to in order to become an 8th seed and having to go play the #1 seed. They win! and convincingly 28-7.

There are reason is a program does not win the conference EVER, gets not a whiff of D-1 kids, kids transfer, and has no chance. And all the signs are there before you take the job and the other side of town does not have these problems. Those are coach killing jobs. Your ego is not going to change that.

1. Demographics. In the middle of the ghetto. 
2. They, parents/admin want the home town guy.
3. The weight room that is not.
4. Staff that is not educated
5. Staff that has never left
6. Staff that have a criminal record, and I do not mean pot.
7. One side of town gets this that and the other…not your side.
8. They have not won a play off in 30 years. NOT A COINCIDENCE.
9. They have gone through x  number hc  in 10 years.
10. The previous coaches record(s)
11. They do not have numbers, failure retention. 
12. Who, what parents are practice. Again, its not a coincidence.
13. Youth league. Is there one worth talking about?
14. Who runs the ms football? If you have it. 
15. No parent support group possible i.e lack of money that otherwise doesnt come from county
16. The administration will not hire coaches as teachers.
17. Administration that makes promises, but that is all they do.
18. Who is running the other sports. Not a coincidence.
19. As others have mentioned, who is the ad.
20. Who do you answer to.
21. Academic school rank.
22. Test scores.
23. How many kids are actually eligible to play in the school
24. Who did the interview.
25. Who are the decision makers.
26. You need be this that or the other. They “ask you to live in the area.”
27. They have no practice field.
28. The gym is not at your disposal.
29. They do not have old film.
30. They do not have cameras.
31. They have lifts…for the band.
32. You have to paint the field
33.  The equipment is a danger.
34. Facilities are inadequate
35. It is a public facility.
36. X and o’s come up in an interview.
37. The old coach is being kept on for whatever reason.
38. They are stingy on the stipends.
39. They will not allow you to bring your people with you.
