Dress. I see a lot of people wearing different socks, 1 tight and not the other. And these are also good teams that do this. It's just something that bothers me so I need to be sure to focus on the things I value. Do you make players dress up for game day school?

GOOD GRACIOUS!! That is insane to me. We are Tue, Wed, Thu for 3 hours. Wed might average 2-2.5 hours. even 3 hours is too much in my opinion. what do you have to do in spring that takes 9 hours a week? lift for an hour, field for an hour. be done. burnout is real gents... Coincidentally, the single thing I see most being added to schedules around here (which was discussed earlier in this thread): watching practice films. Whereas it used to be: - Strength/speed training 1 hour - Meeting & Install 30 Min - Field Work (indy + team) 90 min For a three hour practice, now they add on an hour of watching practice film to make it four.

Yup pretty much. You might have a special group of players from some years, or at least 1 or 2 every year that can benefit from it and actually care, otherwise, I agree

Just post it on Hudl with notes. How do you correct your kids? How do you show them the right (and wrong) ways to do things?

I'm talking more about how they dress during practice and at games. Dudes are now wearing pajama pants to 7 on 7s. I'm not saying their bad for it, I just don't like it.

If you are spending an hour and there is one coach talking to one kid at a time in a room full of 8 coaches and 75 players, film is useless. If you send kids notes, the can watch in 5-10 minutes and have a quick dialogue about, it’s absolute game changer as an improvement tool.

Please film practice. You just need a chair and a cell phone and an extra kid or coach. It will change your team. Just film 10 offensive and 10 defensive plays. You will be amazed at how much better you get when you start correcting every detail. The cool part is after a few weeks, the kids start to correct themselves. JUST DO IT!!!!!!

I think that falls right in line with this thread… who is bringing in the whole ________ ( team, offense/defense etc) and watching film together? I would think that breaking up and watching by position groups would be “standard”. I realize this is not possible in all places.

We coach every single detail. Detail is really important. Make sure you are putting position specific corrections and praises. “Good play” or “have to be better” doesn’t get anyone better. “Look at your eyes. You are supposed to be reading #2 receiver here and you are looking at the QB” or “great job here using a violent rip and being unblockable and not getting expanded so you can get in leverage on the ball carrier” type comments will help kids see what you want and speak the same language as you.

At first I thought you were talking about coaches, because I often wear one compression sock, and not the other, to help with circulation....It almost got real up in here A couple years ago, we played a team where two coaches on the other team were wearing kilts...I've been on a mission ever since to allow the HC to let me wear mine (or go the extra mile and get the whole staff to wear them).

We had a young guy last year that fit every single cliche of over doing it: Backward Visor to bucket hat once the sung came out Tights under shorts Marker tied to waist line Call sheet tied to waist line as well Two whistles Head sets with no one up top Carrier around two water bottles giving water squirts to players on both team This was all on same day during 7 on 7 Biggest douche in my 20 years of coaching. I tried. I mean I really tried to not say anything to him. But then he tried to coach up one of my DBs and I had to kindly ask him not to do that again. Which he did. So then I had to not kindly ask him to do it again. Then he did it again and I had to let the head coach that his receivers coach could coach the defense or myself and the defensive coaches could but the next time that guy talked to defensive players, we were out on the defensive side. Terrible situation. And I knew it was coming cause he dressed the part.

I coached with a guy on JV who would wear one with the cord unplugged just so he would look like he had one. But he was 100% screwing around because it was JV and we all thought it was funny.

Which is worse - having head set on during 7-on-7 with somebody on top, or nobody up there?
i.e. you feel you have to win 7-on-7 so bad you have to have a guy in Press Box, or just look like it?

Head sets with no one up top I do not think I could work for a HC that would allow this on his staff. I would probably walk off the field.
