The spring ball thread came at a time when I am really thinking hard about how to practice. We are in Florida and get 18 practices with a scrimmage (some counties play a half, others play an entire game). 5 of the practices are no contact/acclimation period. I don't necessarily believe that the number of practices is too much. However, we begin S&C in January 3x a week and although there are plenty of holidays and spring break built in 5 months on is a long time! I do believe in burnout.
I have been considering a weekly "step down" system where we go from 5-4-3-3 practice days during the month. I have also considered practicing outside only twice a week with the other days being in the gym. We also have low numbers that factor in and in my mind our kids get twice the reps as it is.
Is there any experience on the board with splitting up practices like colleges during the spring? How are you "minimizing" over exposure yet still getting work done?

I think the first step might be for you define "getting work done". What exactly do you want to accomplish? Go from there.
