I use Word -- same drawing features as PP. But not having a simple blocking 'Line' with a cross on it and not having the ability to 'flip' the play to go the other way, is a pain. Also for passing plays where hashes and field numbers are landmarks, not having a standard background is another pain. Still thinking about getting Playmaker...
In my opinion Playmaker is worth it. It costs about $180 but we've had it for several years and we use it every day. Between playbooks, scouting reports, and scout cards, it's more that paid for itself.
I really like using powerpoint, but was looking into some playbook softwares too. I'm looking at both the Playmaker Pro and Playmaster from Compusports. Does anybody have any experience with Playmaster? Is playmaker pro better used with a Mac?

You can flip your play on power point. Not having the blocking diagram is the only bad part. you can also draw a background on paint to use with power point.
What I have done is do blocking scheme templates.. I create all of my diagrams the same size.. I will then draw a trap with no TE.. Trap with strong left.. Trap with strong right.. I file all of this. and when I need a trap.. I open trap, copy and paste the blocking lines from that slide to the one I am drawing.. I also have a route template..
I say do.. I did.. lost it all when my other computer crashed.. but I will get all that back up.. With Microsoft Office.. you have all you need..

Excel - stats.. fundraising.. grading.. anything dealing with figures..
Access - Scouting database.. self scout.. anything dealing with recall and sorting of data..
This is true.. you can get it all done with Office, but sometimes it feels like I'm using just an adjustable wrench while working on my car. It does the job, but a specialized tool can make it MUCH easier. I hate flipping the blocking schemes versus every defense.... very time consuming.
Just buy Play maker, it pays for itself in the long run, not to mention when ever there is an upgrade in the software, you can return your old PMP and get the new upgrade at a discount rate.
Cna I give Playmaker Playbook on a CD and have a kid be able to view it? Just a question...
i have been moving towards playbooks on CD in PP for the kids. They like it much better. One of my offseason goals is to add cutups so that this is a video playbook.
I put my playbook on dvd with voice overs.. I give coaching points.. use the animation to demonstrate.. all they have to do it put it in and push play.. its like a movie..

I do not have a copy of the video playbook in computer format.. do you know how to get it from dvd to mpeg via dvd drive on a computer?
Usually the DVD authoring tool you use can do this. I use Win DVD Creator and it can translate all differnt formats - avi, mpg, dvd, rm Check out whatever you use to write the dvd's
All mine will allow me to do is to convert avi to mpeg..
Coach, Here's a freeware dvd to mpeg converter called HandBrake. It seems to be the highest rated free dvd conversion tool. I tried it, it works pretty fast - 50 min dvd converted in about 20 minutes. Size went from 3GB to just over 300 mg -- about 10% of original with the default settings. Just unzip the folder and run it - no install. Pretty self explanitory, but let mekow if you have any questions.
