Coaches, re-doing my basement into a defacto coaching "lair". Looking into buying a whiteboard that screws/nails into the wall. Anyone have any good input on who/where to buy?

Anyone have any good input on who/where to buy? want to save money or spend? if you want to go cheap just get a 4x8 sheet of shower board from your local home improvement center and screw it to your wall. Many moons ago me and a couple of other teachers rednecked the schools old chalk boards doing this. There also is a 'white board' paint that a buddy of mine did a classroom wall with and it work pretty decent.

The only advice I would give is not to buy one of the wall-sticker-type whiteboards. I had one in my office and it was never quite flat, the marks would never completely erase, and it made a mess of the wall outside the whiteboard.

www.instructables.com/DIY-Glass-Dry-Erase-Board/This is a big winner for me. I have mounted them at work and at home. You can even paint the surface behind the glass black and use white/colored pens for writing. Easy, cheap and replaceable.

I second the shower board.Buy plenty of the expo white board care and use it often. Try not to let anything stay over a week without cleaning an re-writing it to help keep you board nice and white.

It's just glass. Worst case scenario is when some dummy (me) uses permanent marker without looking. You can always just take the windex to it. I would say the two biggest issues are breakage and lack of contrast. I am thinking about replacing mine with plexiglass. I have also found that painting the back of the glass gives the best results. Might want to switch to wine glass markers for better results over the typical dry erase.

Looks like I'm off to buy a sheet of glass this weekend.

The shower board crap doesn't erase and stains like hell. Keep an eye on facebook marketplace and you can find a glass top coffee table or desk with a pretty good sized piece of glass for fairly cheap.

Maybe I have just been lucky... I have had a 4 x 8 piece of shower board on my basement wall for 19 years ... I have to clean it with Windex every so often but it works great for me and was only like 9 dollars at the time... now I think they are around 12 or 13

In my old garage we put up four of them and would project film on half of it and then draw everything up and game plan on the other half. It was a perfect set up.

I can replace the shower board 3Xs to one sheet of glass. I'll stick with that. I would be worried with glass, it being supported enough, and the natural bumps and hits a normal board takes in a coaches lair. If it cracks then there goes another 50 bucks just so i can write stuff down.

Talk to your school where they buy them from, or have the school order a couple extra so you can buy them from school. should get it a little cheaper that way. I have two white boards in my living room that I stash behind my couch. When football comes on I draw up stuff I like and snap a picture to put on google drive to come back to later.

Also, schools have TONS of materials just laying around that they purchase too many or are replacing. If you contact technology, media specialist (librarian), custodians, or other teachers you probably could get a lead on white boards, projectors, etc.

oh and also don't forget... you can turn that white into a giant Rocketbook LINKThe magic is all in the App you can create the little triangles out of construction paper or even draw them with orange expo, and it works just as well. I use it in my classroom for at home kids.
