After 17 years my football coaching appears to be done. I resigned from the HC position last September (week 4) after a parent bulldozed me with the help of the principal. I didn't understand it at first but found out later he was the best man at the principals wedding. Best course of option at the time was to resign. Since then I've been planning to offer my services to the local youth organization. Thought it would be good, and fun, to go back to where I started (youth level, not organization) and coach the little guys.
But the new HC, he was my DC who once told me he did not support me as HC, has established stronger ties with the youth group and has told them point blank that I am not to coach with them. I've heard this a couple of times through the local pinecone telegraph but it was confirmed to me by the HC that I was going to coach with. They had a sign-up last Saturday and he checked with the league admin/official. He's baffled, I'm not, part of the joys of coaching in a small town. And I really don't want to be driving 30 miles down mountain roads to go coach at another (rival) organization.
So, at least for now, it appears that my active football coaching is done. Some of you may have visited my site that had a bunch of football files. I'm planning to update that with a lot more information/files that I've collected/borrowed/mangled/stolen/developed over the years, I'll post the link here when I am finished with the transfer.

Take a year off and relax. There are always jobs open. I like the saying, what comes around goes around. People that do devious things usually have that happen to them.

Yeah...but think of the satisfaction you'd get if you drive the 30 miles, got the gig, and get those guys on the schedule.
Then, settle it on the field.

So I said above that I was going to post some files I've stolen/appropriated/created/borrowed... I've setup a DropBox location for this. www.dropbox.com/sh/2mpbl03bad23uww/AAC80R-ujX5CjABDJQOqAhNHa?dl=0I've got some things out there now. Let me know if you can see the folder and the files and such. Any recommendations from folks who use/have used Dropbox for things like this feel free to give me the benefit of your experience. If this method works I'll be loading up more files, I've got a lot of them. I apologize to anyone that I have 'borrowed' from if I did not credit you with the information. I tried to do that but realized I wasn't always as successful/diligent as I should have been.

Being in a small town is not always all it's cracked up to be. I agree with the other posters, just chill out this year. God knows if you have to miss some time coaching, this is it. Just picture your former DC getting to be "in charge" of youth football and all of those expert Dads, while also taking temps, sanitizing everything and everyone, changing how to practice, etc. Could be good times.

Let me tell you I have been in far worse situations, that at the times I said, "I guess I'll never coach again." And yet, here I am still coaching. I didn't have to move half way across the country, or work on horrible staffs either.
If you want to coach again I'd say have faith that opportunities will come. I was blessed enough to have the opportunities, they are out there

Administrators are a disgusting breed of person as a whole. I just completed only my third year of teaching and coaching, but I already tend to agree with you for the most part. I just recently got an offer from the high school I went to. My sister still goes there, and my parents, fiancee, and soon to be in laws (cue the jokes, but they are really like my second set of parents) still live within a stones throw. When my old HC called me to offer, I said "I am for sure interested, but let me think about it." I like the school I am at, but said I'd feel it out. Sure enough, like a sign from God (even though I have to admit I don't really look for those), my current HC tells me about a conversation he had with our principal and curriculum AP about my "lack of classroom management", flat out lying about me skipping a professional development that I was never asked to go to, and overall just making chit up about me for some reason...all my observations have been good (from the AP that covers English), and these two hags have never even BEEN in my classroom...hmm. I immediately called the new place and accepted! Anyway, longwinded getting to the point, but don't trust the front office! They have nothing but their best interests and covering their own ass in mind at all times. And the ones who tell you most often that they're there for you, will be the first ones to sell you out/throw you under the bus. I only had 2 administrators ever actually go to bat for me. One was old school as all get out and retired unfortunately. No one messed with him because they were scared of him. The other was old school too and didn't really get to retire on his own terms because people didn't like him. I would have ran through a wall for either.

Every school has a "Cool Kids Club". The people in that inner circle are pretty much bulletproof. If you aren't in the Cool Kids Club, you are easily expendable.
I'm not in the Cool Kids Club at my school. I know that when the day comes that my services are no longer valuable or unique, they won't hesitate in throwing me out with the trash.

The last school I worked at was unbelievable at how true this was. Some teachers were still on staff after 2 or 3 DUIs. However one lady got let go for pretty much just disagreeing with one the vice president of the cool kid club. Unfortunately for me, I'm probably the least social person ever.

I was on a staff once where the Superintendent told our HC "if __________(player's name) comes to me with a complaint about you he will likely have a point and I will investigate it." The kid was also aware of this and he swore he was a FB when we needed more help on the OL. Anyway, we only made it two years.

It's the young "up and comers" you have to worry about. My last school the old school principal retired and we had a "Row the Boater" come in to take his place. He was the typical used car salesmen type that would talk sh!t behind your back and be your best friend to your face. Couldn't stand him

And even more sadly, that's who people want in charge.
