What is your team's weekend schedule? Specifically, do you guys bring players in at all over the weekend and when do you meet as a staff?
Thanks!

We do not bring players in over the weekend. We also don't meet as a staff. As DC, I'm just expected to have everything done and ready by Monday.

We don't bring the players in; we meet on Sundays as a staff for a few hours to touch bases. That's assuming that film assignments have been taken care of outside of scout cards; I just expect those to be done by Monday. I put together two Google docs for the weekend; one breaking down our game and another breaking down the next week's opponent. They're detailed documents and I ask the staff to contribute to it through out the weekend. If they've contributed to those documents, then we can hit the ground running on Sunday, get game plans in place and practices planned.

New HC this season.
Last year we used to meet as a staff on Sunday from 2-5 to review our game film and breakdown/plan for the opponent.
This year, we do the same from 2-5, then the kids come in to watch Friday nights film from 5-7. Makes for a long Sunday, but Monday we are full gear and full speed ahead working towards the upcoming opponent.
I think the new schedule has really helped us this season.

My wife cooks for them something simple and some stay and swim... We have did this in lew of staying after during the week to watch film... I would love to see you document.

No players on weekends. Coaches meet for a few hours on Sunday afternoon to game plan. Coaches have already gone through film by the time we meet.

We have the guys come in 7-9 AM on Saturdays to watch film, lift, and run. 9-noonish the coaches break down film for next week. I come in Sunday morning by 7 to finish watching film and draw scout cards. The goal is to be done well before the Bengals game. (I know I know- I don't know why I bother watching either.)

After a Friday game we usually don't bring the players in over the weekend. Some JV games are on Saturday morning and some kids come in to see the trainer but otherwise they're off until Monday.
Unless we have to scout a Saturday game (And we often do especially early in the season) the coaches don't come in until our meeting on Sunday at 5 PM. Coaches are expected to work on their own at home during the weekend. On Sunday, the coordinators will have a tentative game plan. At the meeting we'll discuss any program issues, watch our game (Quickly, since coaches should have watched it on their own), discuss any personnel issues, watch some film of the opponent (Again, we've already watched at home), then discuss the tentative game plan. Sometimes that may just be the DC (Me) saying, "We're not changing anything".
Unless we're anticipating something, like weather, disrupting practice we rarely spend much time planning practice. We've had veteran staffs who didn't need guidance and our practice format almost never changes. Coordinators draw scout cards on their own.

Also benefitted our Sub-Varsity coaches (who were typically less experienced) with game planning, preparation, calling their games.
Professional Development as it were.

Wanted to make sure that we were all on the same page. got ya... I used to be one of these guys that thought coaches all needed to be in the same room for hours on the weekend grinding out the game plan... But technology has changed me a little... as I said before we don't meet now and at first I was super leary of not meeting, & I actually think we should but only to present the games plans & work out personnel. maybe 30 to 45 minutes. So while I do think coaches need to meet, the methodical plod thru hours of game film as a group is over kill imho... Now to be successful without meeting you need committed coaches that arent just in it for a check that will actually do the work at home. Right now all my coaches shoot me text whenever they get to film on sat or sunday... I sit down and work out the plan sunday night after kids and wife in bed... I dabble a little during days on sat and sun but compile everything sunday night write up scouting report and share it with team and coaches on google classroom. I like this thread... there is no correct way to do it IMHO all about what works for you.

This is one of the big reasons I think there should always be a meeting of somekind even if its short... A good HC develops players and coaches!

To me the biggest reason to meet is to discuss program and personnel issues. We're going to need some frank discussions and may need to say some unflattering things. If they're in writing no matter how harmless they really are they can look bad if the wrong people get their hands on them.

Players on Saturday from 9-11 AM, workout first, then film and discuss game. Lets us work out, check on injuries, and review anything from previous game. Get them out by 11AM, let them have their weekend.
Coaches start breaking down opponent for next week. We all have different aspects of film breakdown to do (ie one guy inputs all Personell, Formation, and play type. Another St/Wk, Wd/Sh, and target. Etc Etc). Since they are already there for film with the players we just all head to a different classroom to do our specific part, divide and conquer, which saves us from the inevitable coach who wants to replay everything and chat about how some coach did something else 20 years back. Now I fully realize this could be done at home, but inevitably I always get guys whose 'internet goes down' or whose 'phone won't work right' in that situation. Never happens in the classroom.
Once we've got all their games broken down I ask that each coach take one small portion to draw up for the scouting report, we usually do their top plays from their top formations. Once that has been drawn up anyone who wants to go is free to. Usually, since we divide up the work, this is all done by noon. All coaches free to go by noon on Saturday, only spent a few hours there (so not really slave driving) and the work load was none to burdensome. Now, anyone who wants to stay and gameplan is free to, that usually takes an additional hour-90 min. Then, no more football. Our practice plans are always the same so no issue with that, scout cards based on the scouting packet if needed so thats done too.
Basically losing 4 hours saturday morning to have everything done and ready. I don't like Sundays, but I have always been a person who felt that if you have work to do, do it right away. I hate waiting til the end of the weekend to do what should be done at the start.

Saturday players are there from 9-11 watching film. 11-12 is treatment then off the rest of the weekend. Coaches are there Saturday at 7 grading film. We leave around noon as well on Saturday. Sunday our defensive staff meets from 2 until the job's done getting the game plan ready. I'm not sure if our offense meets at all....

We have kids in Saturday at 10 for treatment. At 11 they lift and stretch. At 11:30 we do loaf accountability, then we watch film with them until 12:30. Coaches are in from 8am until 3:00. If we are done before 3 we leave. Sunday is coaches only from 1 until 7. If we are done before 7 we leave before 7. I have been places that work until 6 or 7 on Saturday, but usually by 3 we are running out of gas. We try to balance the preparation that needs to get done with also getting some time with our families.

Coaches are assigned different things to get broken down by the time we meet on Sunday morning from 8 to 10-11am. Sometimes we end up breaking the film down on Sundays in the meeting. I am the worst/slowest at film breakdown getting info entered. I want to see every play 5-6 times without having to search for things that are meaningless to me on game days. Just because it is meaningless to me doesn't mean that other coaches aren't using the info.
No athletes on weekends and nothing during college or pro games. And nothing on Monday nights during wrestling...yeah we have that guy.

Yup. I tell our guys to limit what they write on the Google Docs to polite, constructive criticism; "Play #7, Billy is struggling to read the guards." Not "Play #7, the guard pulls and BILLY STANDS THERE!!!".
And, any discipline/house-keeping issues need to be handled via conversation and NOT TEXT!!! Good Lord... I will never understand why people's CYA-sense doesn't kick in BEFORE they fire off that text complaining about a parent, player, community member, etc..etc..

Maybe this will work for you, but if you are dividing up breakdown duties (as I believe you are), maybe you should just take pre snap info. D&D, Hash, Personnel, Formation, Backfield, Motion, Strength, Closed, Etc. If you line up your HUDL tabs right you can basically get this stuff in pretty quick, often times before even seeing the play. As soon as you get this info in skip to the next play (don't even bother to watch). Treat this time for what it is--DATA ENTRY. Then once you've completed your data entry, and allowed everyone else to move on, you can actually watch the film and scout.

ive been on staffs that meet on sundays after church, and ones that meet saturday while its fresh in your head still. as a HC, i have been saturday guy. want both coordinators there(im one) and anyone else that wants input on monday to fridays. if you didnt come saturday to get the plan going, why would you say, hey run this on friday night?
current staff Im on, the DC hates meeting.... so saturday morning, he and his guys watch friday night, tells them grade it on your own if you want, i will let you know what I think and the plan for next week, sunday night sometime... it blows my mind. except I found out, he wants to pencil and paper it all, instead of using hudl reports and, doesnt want anyone to know that he doesnt like watching film "i can watch things 1 or 2 times and get a feel for waht they are doing".... blows my mind to be that arrogant/stupid.....
O we meet saturday til its done, ususally 730 to 1130

Unfortunately, I am responsible for formation, motion and play..the other stuff takes minutes...and if I am watching to ID the play I get sucked in and then onto the next play. Personal Discipline- I could use some.

(hudl scouting says they were 81 % run in the 6 games we had broken down). the rb had 253 carries on the season(25 per game). but we rarely did inside run periods. 4 of our 6 major prep days they worked on skelly pass concepts.... i told the entire staff it was a mistake, i know the stud rb(coached him when he was a 9th grader and,,,, I watch film). he had 156 yds, the qb rushed for 144 yds, we were embarassed at home. offense ran 17 plays in the first half.... that was a culmination of the end of the season. except in the final game vs a stud powerhouse, shot gun chuck n duck 50+ times a game, they end up holding them to 13 pts. smh....
