Apparently (can't 100% trust the organizers of this) they have announced the matchups for this years event. It is a great lineup for the most part. I would be interested to hear what some you know/think about the teams or matchups. Take a look... news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.d...0301/306200039Sat. I wish traditional Texas 5A powers Southlake Carroll, Euless Trinity, Katy, Smithson Valley, and Lufkin could get in on this deal -a good Texas High team played in it last year and got after somebody - 4A powers like Stephenville, LaMarque, Dallas Highland Park, and Denton Ryan along with a few 3A powers such as Giddings, Liberty-Eylau, Liberty Hill, Celina, and Gilmer can usually hold their own with anybody as well - Luke

Findlay is usually decent but not of the caliber they need to be in order to be in this showcase, IMO. One of the problems with the event is it isn't planned a year or two in advance so teams in Ohio already have opponents for the week of the Classic. What ends up happening is if the organizers want Colerain, but they are already committed to play East Podunk High...well they have get East Podunk an opponent to get Colerain. Does that sense? The prime example for this years event is St. X and Indianapolis Cathedral. Those two play each other just about every year, but the organizers scheduled the event during the week they are supposed to play. St. X remained loyal to their committment to Cathedral and said they were pulling out of the event if Cathedral was not allowed to be in it. So the organizers made the accomodation and now they have their Marquee Matchup of St. X vs. DeMatha.

Finally Charlotte will be able to share "The Show" with the rest of the country. Tried to schedule with De La Salle before DLS had their streak ended but DLS was having none of that. Indy and Coach knotts play a beautiful brand of ball.

Interesting Coach Bruce. I have heard from some of the South Carolina powers that they tried for years to schedule Independence, but Indy didnt want to risk ending their streak.

Are these games going to be televised on ESPN or someone? I'd like to see these games.

Are Glenville and Poly going to play a football game or hold a track meet. There is going to be some SERIOUS speed in that game.

Are these games going to be televised on ESPN or someone? I'd like to see these games. The Colerain vs. Hoover game was supposed to covered by ESPN on Sunday but it was moved to Saturday to allow Hoover to participate because they can't play a game on Sunday. So, what I have heard is the St. X vs. DeMatha game will be on ESPN now. That game should be a slugfest!

Independence has a "rep" of "ducking" teams...
They have "ducked" a team or two from the Raleigh area as well as South Carolina.
Not to mention that they have a "rep" of "providing a better education" for students athletes in Charlotte.

Indy "ducking" either you are misinformed or just envious. Tried like crap to schedule De La Salle home and home but THEY would not. Tried for a Disney matchup with DLS...NOPE.....but Indy ducks weak Raleigh schools who go undefeated in the regular season beating up on other weak Raleigh schools then get beat by 30 in the playoffs by Cumberland County teams. Interesting thought process. South Carolina teams want a "scrimmage" It does not fit Indys schedule, Indy says "no" Indy is "ducking". Misinformed or bitter....who knows?

Whatever the case, they will have their hands full with Elder. Sounds like it should be a good game.

From what I have been told of Elder by a couple of Ohio friends.. I think Indy will likely have a fairly easy go of it. Ya never know, and with inter sectional matchups pride tends to play a role...but being familiar with Indy...I think it will be tough for most anyone. Knotts and staff are excellent.

Elder is usually a pretty good program. The Cincy area is brutal however, even for a good team. Elder's TE Kyle Rudolph is an absolute monster. I wish Elder the best of luck.
Coach Bruce - I honestly cant remember where I have heard it, and again dont quote me on it, but I have heard that Byrnes and Gaffney tried to schedule Indy in the last 3-4 years and Indy would not play them. I could be wrong though, just going by what I have heard.

Indy learns from scrimmages...who not to play if they do not have too.
I would not be surpised at all if Indy would not play in the Hebstreit challenge if they had to play a team like Colerain, Glenville, Mooney, St. Xavier, Hillard Davidson, Dublin Coffman...

DVO---Knotts must have crushed you in the past. Man, Accept the fact that Indy is what it is...Dominant and will remain so for the forseeable future. Last season they were young...they are loaded for the next few years. I wonder why it is that when Gaffney or byrnes want Indy to come to their house to scuffle..and then Indy says "O.K. Next year it is at our house" and they say "Oh no, thats not the deal" Then it is Indy who "ducked" I have posted this on the local Preps board...All the coaches are laughing. Those who "know" find this conversation funny yet sad.

P.S. Who has Indy learned NOT to play? Indy has not been the most talented team in the state for years. Heck, they are not the most talented team in Charlotte. LOL, not even close to it. Butler has superior talent. Have for a couple years. This season there is no one, including Independence who has close to the talent that Butler does. Wanna bet on the outcome of that one? Same ole same ole. As a coach, you should LOVE Indys win streak. It is coaching at its best. Unless, like I think, he has laid the smack down on you. Don't feel lonely though, every coach in the state is looking for the answer.

I have never coached against Indy.
I have nothing against Indy. From what I have been told, Indy administration is very smart about the "nations longest winning streak"...

What type of Offense does Indy have

Well...Elder is no joke, so I anticipated a good game. I'm surprised there is isn't more talk about some of the other teams, like Viejo, Poly, Hoover, DeMatha, Union etc.
Does anyone feel an event of this type has potential consequences to the state of high school football? I ask because one of the more prestigious high school football programs in the state of Ohio pulled out of the event because they felt it was not a positive event for it's student athletes to participate in.

Bruce - I am just going off of what I have heard. If you are closer to the situation than I am, then I assume you know more about it than I do.
I have nothing against Indy either, but I cant say I dont want Elder to beat them.

Mission Viejo plays in one of the strongest areas in the nation (maybe not THE strongest, but one of the strongest). Two seasons ago, they were extremely strong and supposedly, have reloaded for this coming year. I have no idea who Moeller is, but I can say with 100% certainty that they will have their hands full with Mission Viejo

I am not an indy fan per say; I just appreciate the attention that they bring to our boys and coaches in NC. We have had in the past teams: Douglas Byrd, Richmond, 71st, Greenville Rose be Nattionally ranked and it was always the same..."Don't deserve it" "Over rated" "Weak state to play in"...now Indy has taken it to another level. It also kills me that no one brings up that for 3 years De La Salle ducked Indy. Coach Knotts offered home and home and neutral site...it was always "no" they could even pick the date..."nope" When you try to schedule DLS...how can you be ducking these others? That is why most in NC get irritated when out siders try to down our boys.

The fact of the matter is, when you win 7 straight state championships people will try to discredit you as much as possible. I can't stand Indy but you have to hand it to them, they have an incredible streak. They will roll Elder.

Perhaps I have been living a cave, but what is this winning streak that Independence has?
And they will roll Elder? I'm not ready to make any predictions at this moment, but that is a bold statement. Of course, I'm biased being from Ohio but I still won't make a prediction like that. I know that Elder is a good team and eventhough I do not know anything about Independence, I know they are one of top teams in the country. Oh well...Should be a good game to watch.

Seven Straight NC 4AA championships and 107 straight games won. I may be a little off on the number of games won, but it is over 100. Like I said, I'm not a supporter of them , but I respect their success.

Aug. 11 7pm..Byrnes will see. No ducking. Of course, it has to be at Byrnes. At least they nutted up and will play.

Indy is playing Byrnes next year? Aug 11 is a little early isnt it?
Too bad they did it AFTER Bentley left.
I never heard DLS ducking anyone. They went TO Hawaii, went to Washington, played Evangel. Played all the SoCal powerhouses. Maybe they simply didnt want to fly to NC??

How is Colerain going to be next year?

Im excited by the Colerain - Hoover matchup too. How is Colerain going to be next year? Colerain is going to be loaded. They return a lot players from last years 13-1 team. They always have speed to burn and their veer offense is run to perfection. Despite all of that, they will still be the underdog to come out of the Cincinnati region this year for a state title. St. Xavier will probably hold that honor.
