So are a criticizing the coaches that start the running with the team but get passed by everyone then kind of tail off, or just the ones who have to be first the entire run? I have seen plenty of coaches that start with the team but then get passed within 2 steps.

Was looking on the local news website this morning at scores from last night, and with each game they often have several photos. I saw one photo with a team’s jack wagon of a coach leading his team through the banner before the game. Da fuq?! Is this common in any area? It certainly isn’t around here. It may speak volumes that this team is a perennial bottom feeder that almost always gets a mercy clock after halftime. There's a team near me that's usually very good and has a coach who does this. They also bring out their inflatable tunnel and smoke machine on ROAD games for a big entrance when they run through the banner. They've done this since he took over as coach years ago. You can imagine how a lot of opponents feel about this, but the dude's been pretty successful with strong ties to the school and community, so he's strongly supported by his admin and boosters and I doubt it matters to him at all.

I have definitely run through the banner with kids. Like at the end. But check the OP. Dude leads the charge!! I've never run through the banner because that would require running. I need to go back and edit. Jogged through the banner.

I've seen it done, but it's certainly not the norm. One time, a gazillion years ago when I was at my first coaching job we did it--but there were circumstances involved. It seems the cheerleaders said something that offended the football players. They said they weren't running through the f'ing banner because of it. They were adamant. I could see huge problems ahead.....so I came up with a solution that resolved the issue. They ran to the banner, went around it and formed a line on each side---the coaches then ran through it. No one was the wiser. That's the only time I can ever remember doing so.

When a coach gets down like a dog and gets held back by his team...I quit. It was game I was watching on TV, so probably a college game, but I've actually seen this... At least it was someone not in game uniform, so possibly a manager or injured player I guess.

I love those videos that show a youth football team running through a banner but the lead guys don't have enough a$$ to break the Velcro and the whole team gets jammed up behind it like it's rush hour on the Dan Ryan. Youth football team in town had banner issues last night. First two kids tripped and took down about 4 more kids. I work for the parks and rec department as program coordinator and had a perfect view of it from my press box. This was the 2nd most exciting thing that happened during that game.

Well the kid was doing some textbook blocking last night and the parent of the kid getting blocked didn't like it. She was yelling at the refs that it should be a flag, that the kid shouldn't be allowed to push the other kids around like that. After she saw that the refs weren't going to throw a flag, she came down to the fence and yelled her child's name then, "come on baby, if the refs ain't going to stop that boy from pushing you around like that than we going home." I fully expected a phone call from her today, but I didn't get one.

I fully expected a phone call from her today, but I didn't get one. wtf!!!! I'm telling you, I was shocked at the entire situation. So far this season I have had a parent that asked me to move her child to a team with his friend because, "what if I can't be at his practice and he gets kidnapped?" We allow 10 year olds that are under a certain weight to play in the 8-9 year olds, we have maybe 5-6 a year that do it, but one parent decided she didn't need to come to the weigh in meeting for 10 year olds that want to try. She then proceeded to come to our office 3 days in a row to complain that her child was only 5 pounds over the weight limit to play down and we should make a special exemption for him. After the 3rd time of her coming in I laid it out for her. I said, "if you would have brought him to the weigh in meeting, maybe we could have done something, but you just disregarded phone calls about the meeting and didn't feel it was important to bring him, so he will not be moving down." She turned in his equipment. We have a team from a near by down that doesn't have enough kids for multiple teams play with our league because we have 5-7 teams per age group, and our fans swear they have a high school kid playing for them. We check all birth certificates and weights, but we are letting a 150lb 14 year old play for them and violate the ball carrying weight according to the fans and some coaches. We have one coach that has the largest play calling sheet I have ever seen walking around the sideline with a wrist coach on each arm calling plays. I'm shocked that he hasn't bought himself a headset yet. This is going to be his last year coaching, he complains about the refs any time they aren't winning and I'm tired of dealing with him.
