Erik Bakich, the baseball coach at University of Michigan, was recently named National Coach of the Year. His Wolverines are one win away from being in College World Series finals. He has had some interesting things to say about "travel" and "elite" summer baseball teams, and their recruiting. I want to make it clear that the player that I mentioned didn't go to a travel tournament. It was more like a combine legitimately run by MLB scouts.
fantom How did your HC handle it?
Did you agree with it?
How did it turn out-affect your team?

Wasn't my team. Just a team I saw during my year off. As I understood it the coach understood. Since it was known that the kid was baseball first (And had a younger brother who was just as good) they figured that they could have him for 9 games or none. They finished 8-4 and lost in the second round of the playoffs (Had to look that up). .

That is the conundrum - nine games, or none?
But then how do you treat other kids who want to miss for other reasons?
Again, not a know-it-all, just being devils's advocate I guess.

And, as I understand it, it wasn't an ultimatum. Just stated that he and his family felt that he needed to go to the event. As for the last question, I have no idea.

Fair enough.
Do you think it would've made a difference if the baseball player(s) in question were major contributors to the football team, or not?
I dunno...there must be a line somewhere, just don't know where it is.
