I am looking to make changes to my current practice plan for the season. I hear about Wednesdays being a very short or even a "No Sweat" type day. If you guys could share yours on here, that would be great!
Currently:
Monday: 22 Periods with punt/kickoff worked in. Teaching day (full pads) Tuesday: 22 Periods with Kickoff/punt reversed. Faster Pace (full pads) Wednesday: 16 Periods with all special teams worked in. Polish day (half shell) Thursday: Play the Game. 11 Situations...30-40 minutes and team for 10. (helmet only) Friday: Unit Meetings/Equipment

"...Wednesdays being a very short or even a "No Sweat" type day."
We did that about 5 years ago with an experienced team, and it worked for us. We tried it the next year with a less experienced team and found that we had to go back to the practice schedule we previously used.

We tried to start saving legs Wednesday and Thursday when I was a head coach. I like that you do a full practice Monday. Many coaches don’t. When do the kids watch film?

We had a much younger/inexperienced team and needed to make Wednesday more of a work day in uppers. It was not a full-contact day, lots of thud. We did not have individual periods, but we did have group and team periods. These group periods were shorter than normal and the team periods were a bit longer than normal. It boiled down to the fact that we needed to go over so many things that we have to have a longer practice than the "No Sweat" practice afforded us. We felt that it worked for us.

Monday - 90 minutes (40 O/ 40 D/ 10 Specialty) Tuesday - 2.5 hours (60 O/ 60 D/ 20 Specialty) Wed - Same as Tuesday Thurs - Typical Thursday that most due. All specialty and O/D scenerios 45 minutes
As the season goes along these times get cut back, by week 4 Tue/Wed are under 2 hrs.

Mondays, we will do a 15 minute scout report and short top plays. We also send out film over the weekend of the opponents top plays/defensive looks. We practice in the mornings since school starts at 9am. After school we watch film and lift weights.
