Just got and email that NJ is using Hudl Sideline to review officials calls. Interesting...

For every game? Or just playoffs?

This was the case last year. On a more limited basis though.

Ok who's film are they using? The home team or away? and what if neither team has HUDL sideline? Slippery slope here. What is review-able? what isn't? This is HS football, officials are just part of the game. Good, bad ugly it is what it is. In a state game that is filmed by professionals with angles all over. Ok, but on a rainy Friday night with a 17 year old camera operator and an IPad...yea this will cause issue.. What if home team angle is good and sees it better than the away team, are they going to go back an forth to each view and each sideline? If you have a 3rd party paid film guy by the state then maybe...even then seems like a lot of wasted tax dollars for a football game....

There is a system of guidelines on the amount of angles and both teams have to have the sideline system for the game to qualify to use the review for that game. I think it would work. If the ref can't see the call clearly to over turn the call stands.

So only if both teams have multi angle sideline view can this be used in a game?

Didn't NJ use replay last year? Or is it just new that they are using Hudl Sideline now?

Man, I'd be content to just have games where the refs know all the rules and don't just make rules up (usually have a couple each year).

It's a nice thought but in reality, it's too hard logistically. This was all brought forth by one of the Catholic school coaches who felt he lost a playoff game because of an officiating error. (Mind you, the "error" is not a reviewable play)
NJ has a problem where it caters to the Catholics with things like this, but in reality it does not apply to the small public school. Many teams do not have Hudl Sideline, many teams can only find one guy to film, etc.
High school sports is one of the last bastions where replay is not used to over-over-over-over analyze calls like we do in every sport now at the collegiate and professional level. It should be kept that way.

So that means they will only have instant replay working for like 40% of the whole season? Awesome!
