I've told this one before..... HC is an old school guy, wants to give a rousing pregame speech to have the kids busting the doors on the way out to the field. HC is really a good guy and wants to have the kids ready to go. He works hard and wants the kids doing the same, trys really hard to connect with the kids. So he puts some thought in to the pregame.
This was about the time Clemson was getting really good under Dabo Sweeney. One of Dabo's trademarks for tough games was BYOG... Bring Your Own Guts.
HC is giving a pregame and he's getting to the climax and going to use Dabo's slogan.... but he get's it mixed up.
HC: "This is a game that is going to be tough, it's a game where you're going to have to BYOB!!!!!!" (everybody kind of stops and looks around... did he just say....) "You know, it's a game that's not going to come easy. You're going to have to BYOB!!!!"
About this time the HC realizes what he is saying.....
HC: "You know what I'm talking about BYOB...... what Clemson says..... Let's go!!!!"

My old high school coach did this one. Still think about it all the time.
We were visiting our rivals and the HC gets us around and says boys I just been wanting to get this off my chest for a while now. If you honestly think some fat old guy in a red suit is going to come down your chimney and give you a GD present, I don't know what to tell you. Don't get me started on that damn Easter bunny. Nobody is gonna give anything to you, especially that team we are playing. Now lets go out there and kick their asses.
Everyone sat still for a bout a minute for what the coach just register in our minds.

I’m gonna sound like an old man, but the best “speeches” are when you go through the game plan, tell the kids exactly what’s going to happen, and then it actually happens on the field.
Best one I remember, we were down 13 at half, but weren’t playing terribly. We made some defensive adjustments and I told the kids, “We’re going to get the ball to start. We’re going to march down and score. They’re going to go 3-and-Out. We’re goig to march down again and score and take the lead. Believe!”
We did exactly that. Ended up losing by 2.

Not Pre game but a former player reminded me of this... 2nd round playoff game... We are playing a powerhouse private school (Jeff Fisher's son was playing for them...We start the 4th quarter down 14-7... Starting TB is out... I look the guys dead in the eye in the huddle... and I say "We got them right where we wont them... this game is over they just don't know it yet... We scored on the opening series of the 4th quarter... Broke a long run a little later to take the lead...Batted a pass down in endzone on last play to win!...

Should have added a field goal to your gene plan and told them about it. Your short story was missing the ending.

We have a team manager, a "Radio," for lack of a better term. He's been part of our team for the past 12 years. His sophomore year, we let him start giving pre-game speeches. The kids liked it, it helped lighten the mood and somehow fire them up at the same time. His speeches escalated in intensity every year, and but his senior year, this kid was all fire and brimstone.
It's an away game, we're playing a rival, we're under their bleachers in a cramped locker room. Radio starts pacing back and forth, silently, getting more and more red in the face. The team is very mock-serious, waiting for whatever he's going to say. Radio stops, slowly looks over the room, then screams out "F##K SOUTHWEST!!!!" and sprints out of the locker room with the team at his heels.
He still gives pre-game speeches, but he's never matched the intensity or response of that speech. Also, we remind him weekly he isn't allowed to use profanity.

My HC tells us these two every year, speeches he witnessed from his days as a JV assistant.....
Young fiery JV coach, gets to give his first pre-game speech. Has it all planned out, is gonna end it by punching thru the dry-wall. Unfortunately, his hit a the cinder block behind the dry-wall. My HC saw it, managed to throw a towel over the bones sticking out of his hand before the team saw it.
Another fiery coach giving his first speech. Instead of the wall, THIS guy is just gonna punch thru the dry erase board sitting on a big easel. While he doesn't break anything, he does get his elbow stuck in the board, so it tips back towards him when he pulls his arm out... then it falls over on him.... then the hyped up freshman team tramples over the board with him still underneath. All my HC can see is his arm sticking thru the board as the team runs him over. The coaching staff was laughing too hard to go over and help

Heck this reminds me of my first year coaching offense. Pre game of Game number 1. I went over play #1 and I was just BSing but I told the kids “so we’ll take this to the house on the first play”. It was a dang bubble screen out of quads, and wouldn’t you know it they lined up how we thought they would and 72 yards later we scored on play #1 of the season
