I am needing to buy about a dozen or so helmets for next year and cant really afford $400 a helmet right now. So does anyone have any preferences as to which helmets they or their players prefer? Right now I'm looking at the Riddell Speed or the Schutt Veneance series. Thanks for your replies.

I know they are trying to phase out the Speed/Classic per our rep. They want to move to the ICON helmet which is very similar in protections and cost. We just had to buy around 30 new ones because we had that many go out of date. We also went with then Schutt Vengeance for half of the order because we caught a hella deal on them. Around half the cost of the SPEED/ICON. However they are a super flexible helmet in the ear lob region. You can almost push in each side to touch each other without a face mask. The vision in the helmets are wider IMO from the SPEED/ICON, but would limit to what personnel would wear them. I would not recommend them for a DL/LB type or OL to wear the Vengeance based on what I have seen so far. We will see when Spring ball comes around how they hold up.

I've never been in a spot to where i was in control of buying the helmets, but i am always the guy who gives the gear out to kids, and if your's are like ours then you probably hear "Coach do you have a Speed left, is there a Speed, can i get a Speed, coach i dont think this helmet fits me but i think that Speed will"

Go Schutt for sure...cheaper and higher rating. I'm getting schutts for under $250 each. Do not fall for the Riddell marketing machine.

Oh, and Schutt are cheaper to recon if replacement parts are needed. I do have kids that buy their own Riddell and that works well for all of us.
You see more Schutt on Saturdays and especially Sundays. When you watch an NFL game, if you do not see Riddell on a helmet, then it is probably a Schutt. Mire NFL guys wear them then you realize.

We purchased over the last 2 years 24 shcutt vengeance vtd2's for around $4000 total. We traded some helmets in and got a really good buy 5 get 1 free deal though.
I know its anecdotal evidence, but we finished the 2018 campaign with 1 concussion for the season on a complete cheap shot helmet to helmet blindside, zero other issues.

I am a huge fan of XENITH...2 reasons... I like the technology of the inside of their helmets... and the main reason is fit... they are the only helmet I have ever tried that fits snugly to every players head regardless of shape or size... the Chin strap system that s webbed through the helmet blatter pulls it snug against the players head... My kid will wear it every year

Not sure what rating your looking at...but all the Schutts rated above the flex are $900, find it hard to believe Schutt is selling you a $900 helmet for $250??? Schutt does have several 5 star helmets at that price point, but none rated higher than the flex.... www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/varsity-football-helmet-ratings.html

Plus $10 if extra large. I was shocked I got that deal, but I did.

Then I stand corrected...thats awesome for you... I was shocked. When I got the quote by text, I immediately called my guy and told him he quoted me the wrong helmet. LOL. He said nope. I argued with him. Hahaha Anyways, didn't 100% believe it until I got an in-writing quote. Needless to say, we bought those helmets. PM me. I will give you the guys number. Great guy. No idea if he can do the deal again, but he might be able to.

The Schutt F7 VTD's are different than the F7 LTD. The LTD is the pro version for list $999. (Different facemask among other little differences) I got quoted for $600 for that helmet. I think $250 for the VTD is a great price. It seems like a great helmet. Maybe it is just me but I think Schutt is trying to make a strong run at the Riddell flex with the F7s.

I am also in the Schutt VTD II Vengeance boat. I get them for $240. They are highly rated, kids like them, and cheaper to buy and maintain. I have had to replace about 40 helmets over last 3 years and have used Schutt to save money.
On a side note, Xenith offered a "trial" this spring (I got it at Glazier Clinic) where you could get 3 helmets in a "size run" (M, L, XL) for the price of 1 helmet. I was able to get 3 of their X2E models for $289 total and 3 of their high end Shadow models for $479 total. I figured it was worth a shot to try them out since I got 6 new helmets for $768. I'll let you guys know how they work out.

I really like Xenith helmets. We have about 10 of them. They fit most kids, the sizing is a little different, but you can find sizes that fit. They are hard to order though with their buy direct only-- takes a bunch of emails and wait time to get quotes.
Until the newest line of Schutts- they have not fit my kids well, The F7 is the first one to fit a majority of my kids. The other lines would fit 20% of my kids where the speed/ speedflex would fit 95% of my kids. And I'm the one fitting them- so its not just the kids saying they don't fit.

If they don't keep them inflated properly, none of it matters. (Huge pet peeve of mine)

This was the year before I here, but our head coach said multiple guys had to get ears drained after games.

Right now I'm looking at the Riddell Speed or the Schutt Veneance series. Thanks for your replies. I went with 8 Schutt Vengeance helmets last year because of the deal. Never again. 1) 4 of the 8 got rejected from reconditioning for defective parts after one yea of use. They are under warranty for this year and Schutt is fixing the problem but if it this happens again next year or the it happens to any of the other 4 that weren't, they won't be covered and I will have to pay out of pocket to replace the parts. 2) We had trouble fitting them to our kids. Most of our kids just fit the Speeds better. 3) Sizing is off. We had to order an XL for a 6ft, 185 lb WR that can wear a "one-size-fits-most" hat. Talk to your Riddell rep. We didn't pay $400 for the 12 Flexes we bought this year. Paid under $300 if I recall. Also ordered 5 Speed Icons at under $300 a piece as well. AJ

It sure if this is the right place but we had a lot of issues with the flex chinstrap snapping. Because it’s a screw in set up you can’t easily replace in game. Our kids have abandoned the flex and all just want the speed.

My son has worn one for the last 6 years ... no ear problems... could be a sizing problem... The other thing is xenith in my area has been great to deal with.. call them and tell them and they prolly make it right if its helmets fault.

My son and several other players wore Xeniths this last season and loved them. I also like the interior fit of them. Will wear them next year for sure.
