How do you schedule your mondays in season? It seems some programs treat it as a full gear full go day. Other teams may spend time watching film and perhaps go out in helmets to get a look at upcoming teams formations, etc.
What is your Monday like?

We watch our film of our last game during wt. lifting class. As eh DC here is a typical Monday for me. Prepractce (10 min)-Install and teach gameplan. Pursuit (5) Individual (15) Tackling CIrcuit (10)-this could change as the season goes, could be a specialty period such as halfline or working on a particular play like power read. Formations and alignments (10), Inside Run (10), Team (10)

We decrease the workload throughout the week, so Monday and Tuesday are pretty full go, Wednesday is a bit more low key, and Thursdays are just helmets with a walkthrough.
I've also worked with schools who go pretty low key on Monday with film, a lot of install, and maybe not in full pads. They then go full on Tuesday/Wednesday, and then more of a half-contact Thursday.
I definitely prefer the first option.

If we play Friday then Monday is our 1st & 10 day. It’s full gear if possible but if we don’t have enough healthy guys for contact we’ll just do helmets. If there’s a planned helmets-only day it’s day 2 when we do 2nd & long.

M-T-W is full throttle. Thursday is ST.
You play like you practice. We don't play in "helmets only".

We only watched our game film on Monday if school wouldn't let us on Sunday. Then we would have a short practice (helmets and shoulder pads) to work out "kinks" and familiarize kids with opponents' offense and defense, then lift.
If we saw film on Sunday we would have a full practice on Monday (still helmets and shoulder pads).
Recently our state limited us to two "collision" (player-on-player contact) practices. Those were Tuesdays and Wednesdays for us.

ALWAYS FULL GEAR
Monday: fundamental focus, compete in everything, use 7 on 7 to teach structure of gameplan
Tuesday: focus on stopping the opponents best plays
Wednesday: do Tuesday better
Thursday: full speed run through on air (hit every unit and move on)
Notes: -we will work special teams every day; punt return at the end of defense, kick off after offense, etc. -keep track of drills and how much you’re taxing your kids, be smart and know when to tone down. (Sometimes the best thing is to get into team and get out to let them rest)

Tuesday and Wednesday are their full go days, Thursday is pregame practice and then meal.

Mondays...
We either lift before (we have teaching staff meetings every other Monday) or watch about 10 clips of film (5 O & 5 D)...this is about 20 minutes.
Defense is 10 minutes of Indy or Group depending on opponent / time of season. Then about 15 minutes in which our JV D & Varsity D each get the opponent’s top 10 plays. Allows for us to immediately see if anything needs to be adjusted the rest of the week from our base D / checks.
The rest of the day is offense focused. Indy for 10, Group / Pods for 10, Half-line for 15, Openers / Drive Starters for 10-15.
Then we finish with conditioning in the wrestling room for 15-20 minutes. This really created a higher level of mental / physical toughness the past 2 years we’ve added it.
We are usually just under 2 hours every Monday...

Always used Monday as a Lift / Film / Install day.
Started going full go on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Haven’t done it long enough to know if our kids looked for the better or for the worse.

Its more of a mental day then full contact. We are normally in shells. Going through install, and get a good lift in.

We were usually shells on Mondays. We'd lift, watch film of our opponent, and then go outside for practice. We still had Indy, group, and team just like we would any other day.

Sounds like a good way to go.
When we had to watch film on Monday (instead of Sunday), practice, and lift - made Monday a real long day.
Only plus was had more time on Sunday to do game prep.

I changed this last year.
Historically it had been for us a film day, some chalk/gameplan and a BS "walk thru" type of install practice
looking back it was a waste.
Last year I changed it to a Full practice. We still do a film/chalk but we wear full gear and have a real practice.
I work our 1st/2nd down plays... the stuff i am going to call over and over on the "normal" downs

6th period walk through; intro formations; lots of alignment and assignment periods. Then we try to go balls to the wall as much as we can at practice. The goal is to be at the point we have to taper off and get off our feet the last half of Wednesday.
Obviously this changes as the year goes on but generally speaking this is it.

Saturday Run Lift Film review
Mental Monday - Defensive Day Defensive game plan film and install Full gear practice - Control Tempo Heavy Cardio at start of practice Kickoff
Technique Tuesday - Offensive Day Lift Full gear practice - Control Tempo Heavy Cardio at start of practice Kickoff return
Whoop A$$ Wednesday - Defensive Day - Night Practice Study Hall O and D film Full gear practice - Thud Tempo Heavy Cardio at start of practice Punt Team
Thump It Thursday - Offensive Day Full gear practice - Thud Tempo No Cardio KO Return Hands Team and Obvious Onside
----
M/W is defense only and T/TH is offense only – we do 2 full days of each
Thursday is NOT a runthrough or walkthrough day – we practice hard Monday is NOT an easy day either

It is a film/lift day for us and then we go out in helmets and shoulder pads. The D will work on alignment against other teams formations and they will see their top plays in a walk through format. Offense will see opponents D for first time and OC will walk through his plays of the week (variations based on opponent D). It's a pretty light day on the field and more mental then anything.
Interesting to see the differences.

We don't have a weights class or athletic period so:
Monday in shells: Weights, film (JV games are Saturday AM, not allowed to bring players in on Sunday), walk through scouting report and game plan (also give them written report/plan), light conditioning.

Mondays we will watch film of the game we just played. If time permits we will watch a quarter of the team we will be playing. After that we go out in helmets and walk through our base offense plays vs next opponents def to make sure kids know blocking rules, make sure backs know where the double teams are, kick out are etc. We'll do the same on def, line up in opponents offense and make sure the kids line up and adjust accordingly and walk through opponents best run plays so kids can see how plays develop and enforce reads. We do this so on Tuesday we can go full pad and go at it and kids hopefully have a good base on what they need to do vs next opponent.

Film of and intro to upcoming opponent (watch our own film on Sat). Don't switch a lot week to week, but I feel its good to look at clear and heavy tendencies and key opponent players.
-SHELLS- Warm ups, agilities, COD work General EDDs (Block, destruction, form tackling) 2 Special Teams Team O & D vs opponent's top stuff (half contact) Weights

Monday: Test the 40, Lift, Full Pads... Test the 40? Why? Because we believe in Max Speed at the expense of everything else... We test the 40 on Monday/Wednesday. That and the fly 10 give us a readiness test that we can use to decide at what level they practice. Can't afford an Omegawave.... Maybe one day.

It measures EKG, Brain Waves, Metabolism, CNS. Take those data points together and you can determine if an athlete is ready to practice. Your central nervous system can only handle so many max efforts in a week. Some say three, some say less. We use the 40/10 fly trend as a way to help us determine if a guy is too worn out to go full.

Monday we have a ST meeting and position meetings to introduce the scouting report. We then have an 18 period practice. We are going to have only 2 periods of team. We are typically in full pads the first 5 weeks of the season. Week 6 we will often go shells. If we have a Thursday game then Monday is a 24 period practice.

Our Monday is our intro to opponent day for defense, Base formations/personnel groupings. Offensively it is intro to our opponents defense, perimeter run and quick game. Gear worn is determined by outcome of the previous weeks game. If we win, shorts and shells. If we lose, full pads.
