We had a twenty year running joke on our staff. Any time a coach was even slightly critical of something that another coach did while doing a job that nobody on the staff wanted, he'd finish up by saying, "But he's doing a helluva job". To me this is a "Helluva job" situation. That said, I love hex bar dead lifts.

Y'all look fast and powerful coach. I started incorporating Trap bar dead lifts at my last gig and saw good benefits. I liked how much muscular activation it involved. I was always looking to add "bang for your buck" exercises. Guys think they need to isolate specific muscles (biceps etc.), but the thing is they will do those on their own if they want to. They're not going to jump into the real exercises that get them better if they have a choice usually.

Our starters average bench press (17 players including db's, wr's, qb) is 248 and average trap bar is 487. And here is the crazy part, we graduate 38. Not 38 players from the team, 38 total boys and girls in the senior class. We are a tiny school. I have coached at 6A size schools that aren't near as strong as we are.

Baseball team made it to the semi-finals and lost to eventual state champs. Won first game, lost second game in 9 innings (hs plays 7), lost third game. The team that beat us went on to sweep championship series 3-0 and 11-1. So we did not start spring training until Monday. 4 days of practice. Last night we played the two teams that beat us last year. Both were 2016 champs and 2017 runner-ups. The second team we played already has five kids with d1 offers and have 3 more that might get them. One of our better players hurt his knee Tuesday. 6'3" 250. Should be back in 4-6 weeks. Anyways, we played both teams one quarter each. Finished up 27-0 in first quarter, and finished up 9-8 in second quarter with a stop on 4th and 1. I highly encourage every coach on here to invest in high handle trap bars and get after it. We have three kids pulling over 600 pounds on them and our team average max right now is 425. Starters average 487. Baseball players got after it all baseball season in the weight room, as did basketball players who won state. Our kids are bigger, stronger, faster. We have always done really well in the weight room, but these things are a difference maker. I really believe that. We can fly. The video at the top of the link is highlights from last night. www.hudl.com/team/v2/14720/Boys-Varsity-FootballHow do you get the baseball and basketball kids in there? We still have kids missing for AAU tournaments and pole vaulters that think they will get to big if they lift weights. Drives me crazy.

That being said, we have a tradition of chmapionships in all sports and d1 players. Plus, the start to jump higher and get faster and stronger, so it is an easy sell.

I am AD. They don't have a choice. My man. And our coaches want them to lift. When you get a basketball coach who has 19 years of actual college experience (SEC/ACC) and a baseball coach who caught in the minors for 9 years, they get it. They tell the kids all the times to get stronger. Semi’s in football, champs in bball, semi’s in baseball.

Just a side note. We only have the lower handled trap bars. I have them put the 45's that have "handles" (gaps to carry the 45's) on and we grab them for deads. It is higher than the high handled trap bars but it is a wider grip. Seems to be OK until I can get the high handled ones.

silkyice do you use straps on your trap bar deadlifts? No. But not opposed to it. I think the grips being on your side are much easier hold then when in front of your body like regular deadlifts. We haven’t had grip issues yet.
