Well guys.. we won our first football game on any level in 3 years.. and our first JV game in over 40 years last night..
Havent played but a handful in the last 40 years due to lack of numbers..
We went 6 wide most of the night.. QB ran 18 times for 125 yards and 1 td..
He also was 13-23-2 213 yards 3tds..
Only ran one other guy in motion.. and he ran the Jet 6 times for 43 yards..
Won the game 28-6 against a 2A team.. HUGE kids.. but they were befuzzled all night..
They beat us in a JV game about 5 weeks ago to the tune of 28-0.. so victory was very sweet..
Wish I had it on film.. but it was quit wet.. and I doubt any parents filmed it..

6 wide gonna hang around next season....where ever you are? Yea, I think once I iron out some problems.. I might keep it in for a while.. Still need to be able to run some things off tackle if they are widening the end.. With the full speed motion we have tried a few things.. but he almost comes in too fast to run trap unless he chops up after catching the ball.. which we did last night for the QB's TD run.. I cant wait to see how well this would do with some pretty good athletes..

40 years? Thats persistent. Yea, the guy told me that they may have had only 2 or 3 seasons in the last 40 years where a JV team played. And even then they always lost because it was usually mostly junior high kids and freshmen. So this year we finally have enough out to actually play a few JV games and we actually win one. It was a pretty good feeling to see those kids win SOMETHING.. You would have thought that they had won the state championship.. The freshmen who scored the first receiving TD.. has played running back ever since the 6th grade for the junior high.. that was his first TD ever..

The real question...
Is how did you get that defense to turn it around? Gave up 28 5 weeks ago... held them to just 6?
That's the success story... in additon to putting up 20+... that's always a victory also.

40 years? They should construct a statue of you in the town square! Any offense that helps break a 40 year losing streak needs to hang around I'd think.

That's the success story... in additon to putting up 20+... that's always a victory also. Last time we were in cover 3 all night.. I let our Dline coach call the defense.. that time they scored 3 times on the smash.. corner bit on the hitch twice and the kid was wide open.. and another he just stalled long enough to run by him.. Last night we played a 4-3 cover 2, 4, and 0.. was bringing pressure in 0 and did lots of stunts and slants..

Coach at the risk of being humbled, I really do not know enough about zone concepts to really use it. I WOULD love to learn it.. but just have never really GOTTEN it enough to use it.. But yes, I feel it would help a lot.

What did they do on defense to cover your six wide? A lot of Cover 4? Cover 2? Or just man up? I am also curious to know if they blitzed a lot. My last question, do you know for certain that nobody filmed it? it would be great to see - I enjoyed your practice cut ups.
Congrats Coach!

They manned us up in cover 1.. but would bring the guy backside of the motion.. they brought some off the edge a couple of times to the motion.. we threw a 15 yard out in the flood to the guy who left his man when they did.. really just got lucky.. it was raining and we only had around 6 or so fans in the stands.. so pretty sure no one filmed it..

Still need to be able to run some things off tackle if they are widening the end.. .. use an H-back and run shuffle option with him? Just an idea

You could run a shuffle sally play. Would nto be much different then the shuffle reverse you use other than it hits inside the tackle instead of outside.

Great idea.......it wouldn't effect protection since you sprint out in this set most of time right? Another "just an idea": add a TE or 2........you don't have enough paper to draw up the formations from that!

I agree with experimenting with an H-back from your six-wide.
I mean, with that kind of record you can't go wrong with experimenting. I also like that you ran this offense and you said it was "wet." There goes one of the arguments against it right there.
I'm just making things up now but you could do a form of 5 wide where instead of a QB you have a kind of pistol tailback type. You still could do all your motions and things but it might give you a dive back of sorts.
Anyway, keep working at it and let us know how it goes. I'm really happy for your kids, whether they were running 6 wide or 7 wide or running the notre dame box.

Air we are trying your six wide this saturday. We haven't had much success the past two weeks moving the ball, so we are going to try your six wide and an unbalanced package. I will let you know monday how it worked.

Am I missing something? 6 wide? Coach: Quads to one side, twins to the other, or else trips both ways -- then motion one back to take the snap "on the run".

I love the unbalanced idea!!! That definitely made my offseason "tinker with this" list.

Am I missing something? 6 wide? I'm going to say it too? 6 wide? Is this up there in Canada or something? And for off-tackle play I would recommend a bubble. Motion slot from weak side- line blocks back to motion origin, with backside guard pulling through hole- QB reads end- pitches to motion man if end attacks and throws bubble if end sits. You're 3/4 receiver side would run bubble. Oh and congrats by the way!
