Watching scout film back in the day before video quality was that good. A kid for the team we were scouting broke away on an inside run and was gone and then all of the sudden falls down. Looked like a classic sniper job. It was only after rewatching it several times did we see a black dog streak onto the field and run right into the ball carrier. Oh and the field had a giant tomahawk on it with big drops of blood dripping off of the blade. Watched a film one time in a staff meeting and the 3 on the 30 yard line was painted backwards. I said freeze the film and then said "Doesn't anyone else find it disturbing they painted the 3 backwards?" All the old school guys grumbled and said stuff like- What the hell are you looking at!?! We're here to prepare for the other team! I never understood how you can't notice little crap like that when watching a film.

Eventually you notice everything going on if you watch enough.

Both of the guys who scolded me about it had been here for 25 years and were supposed film junkies (I don't know because I didn't really care for either and their roles on my staff were somewhat limited as they were both onto semi-retirement). They were super pissed that I wasn't just staring at the formation and play. BUT IT'S A GIANT BACKWARDS THREE!!!!

In a recent (and very hot-tempered) game one of our DL told his positional coach that he was being held/face-masked/horse-collared on every play. We reported it to the officials and they looked out for it happening again but no calls were made. Upon reviewing the film (taken behind our opposition's sideline from a public viewing area) we could clearly see an opposition coach instructing his players on how to gain leverage by pulling the facemask down and getting hands inside the pads around the neck area.

If you're doing a thorough breakdown, don't you have to see what yardline and hash the ball is on???

Here is another one along those lines. We are watching film on the school I had just left that is also the in county rival. They spell out the name of the school with flags and run around after a score. Well they got out of order and instead of TROUP it spelled TRUOP. I was half hysterical and half embarrassed because I also graduated from there.

One year, we were watching film from the previous night and the opponent's left OT would hop around like John Belushi from "Animal House" if the play was going away from him (see the link below). It was a riot... The play would be 60 yards away and he'd be jumping around like a goon.

Once had to file a report with school admin then have police remove audio from film because our football managers were discussing their sexual experiences while filming Sophomore games in the box.
That was not a fun time. I also spent the off-season physically disabling the microphones in our cameras.

That is one thing I love about Hudl, I upload our video without audio, that way don't have to worry about if coaches are near camera and when trading for opponent scout can here calls, or what coaches say or whatever injured kid is filming says.

Looked at film a couple of years ago from a tight game with one of our main rivals. We heard about the play before we got the film and could not believe it. The team lost by 3 points by missing a 30-yard field goal with a really good kicker. The reason he missed it was because a seagull flew by and got hit by the ball just after the ball crossed LOS. Had to see it with my own two eyes to believe it.
Unfortunately they could not add: No animals was hurt during this video

The best thing I ever heard during a game never made it to film. Years ago was working for one of the worse teams in the city, we have 26 high schools with football in Louisville public and private combined and this school is always in bottom 5. If x games were a high school sport they would be city champs. Anyway we had a defensive coordinator that is a great guy, very funny, an awesome cook, former defensive lineman and looked like a soprano character. The team wasn't very good we went 1-9 each year I was there, the defensive coordinator would get frustrated and often thought our players were intimidated by the other team. His own way of trying to get their confidence up was to make fun of the other team. Some of his best lines: "Hey 78, what did those cleats ever do to you?" "You call that tackling or are you rehearsing gay porn" "Was that a tackle or are you in the rodeo, you almost held on for 8 seconds" "Nice hit reminded me of my last massage"

2-3 different film this last season with cheerleading signs on the far fence with the design "We <3 our boys" but in all of them the 'our' was written small and vertical. On film it looked like "we <3 boys" Made sure our cheer leaders never put that sign up on our fence.
