again... our sport is safe. you have a culture of whiny moms who are making a ton of noise, and liberal sissy men backing them up. the truth is a long screaming whining diatribe is going to make more noise than a bunch of red blooded american men saying "shut up". trust me fellas... when push comes to shove, this sport will be safe. You must not be married.

Good luck with that. Meanwhile, numbers will continue to decline to the point that 3 and 4 schools are going to have to coop or combine in order to field a team of 20 kids. This, "football will survive because it's football", mindset is stupid. If you haven't noticed "red blooded american men" are vanishing in themself. first of all, you're talking about two different arguments altogether. the problem of participation is not a product of parents not letting their kids play because of safety... it's a product of the "friend generation" of parents allowing their kids to be lazy bums and allowing them to quit or never play in the first place and stay home with their x boxes. A small, miniscule percentage of kids that aren't playing are doing so because of injury concerns. Secondly, your assertion that red blooded american men are vanishing is straight up dumb. I can assure you that we are alive and well in the great state of Texas. Football in this great state is and will remain just fine. Silly me. I forgot your giant dicks make you impervious to societal trends.

wow look how outrageous you are, internet tough guy... WHAT'LL HE SAY NEXT???!!! How novel, an outspoken dude on the internet that resorts to snide remarks to mask the fact that he doesn't know what he's talking about. Move along, Junior, let the adults talk.

How novel, an outspoken dude on the internet that resorts to snide remarks to mask the fact that he doesn't know what he's talking about. Move along, Junior, let the adults talk. Yep. Responding to a sentiment expressed by various coaches across the country with "It ain't gonna happen here in Texas because we're real men who can keep our women folk in line" is obviously WAAAAY too adult for my tastes. But please, tell us how the great state of Texas is going to save football despite participation in the sport being down 25% nationwide over the past 5 years.

Oh we won't save it for you... just us.
Once again, like a child, you are taking two completely separate issues and combining them in hopes that it suits your own argument. If you are talking about participation being down from kids simply not playing for reasons other than health issues, like laziness, then the change has to come from within the home. The only way we can help that is by giving statistics to these parents on the benefits of playing the game and being involved. Secondly we have to tirelessly promote our cause throughout our community, be visible in the community doing positive things and showing people that they have something they can be proud of. Lastly, we have to be a constant presence at our lower levels, especially middle school. Not to knock the youth coaches, because I know we have many, but middle school is really where sinking our teeth into them counts in order to promote your program.
Now, if your simple headed argument is purely based on the incidence of concussion related concerns and permanent injury, then we have to get information out to our parents that is honest and informative while also maintaining the benefits of participation. Just as there is bad information out there that says nothing but "football gives you concussions", there can be equally bad information that says "football is 100 percent safe". An honest exchange of information that includes the difference between the risk of concussion and the implied risk of permanent injury is needed. There will always be risk involved in our sport, and the hover moms need to have the real information, and not what they learned watching the view.
Is that a good enough plan for you? Now go back to your paddle ball game.

This article and the Grantland piece are just fodder for the guilible parties to get their jimmies rustled because it feels good. I'm willing to bet half of you didn't even read the article. Football ISN'T under attack and NEITHER of these articles articulated any evidence that it is or that it should be. You guys really need to relax

That news article was bogus from what I hear. It is my understanding that there were other significant reasons for this district to cut football and they didn't want them to get out.

There obviously wasn't a heavy opposition to the cut from the community so they get what they deserve.
