I include them in our JV spirit pack and tell them take care of them and they will last three seasons. Amazing how they last when they are "theirs" compared to the "team's."

Our kids really seem to like the wrestling sleeves neoprene or other they stay up and are very protective. The CYA factor when a kid gets injured in my book better to have it covered.

We go volleyball knee pad w/ shorts and make them buy them. Saves on practice pants, belts, and losing game knee pads. They can slide them down on breaks. Game day we hand knee pad pant inserts out and get them back after the game.
For the "isn't it always hot" guys... It's much cooler 7-10pm than 3-6pm.
For the "practice how you play" crowd... Do NFL and NCAA guys ever wear pants in practice during the season?
For the "no knee pads at all" crowd... good luck w that law suit. We wear knee pads Mon-Wed, only Thur do we not. We wear girdles EVER SINGLE PRACTICE.

For the guys that like the idea of allowing these pads - what do you do in cold weather (I'm Canadian, so at the end of the season we can be close to the freezing point out there. And do you find you repeat yourself way too many times for the pads to be pulled up during contact periods. As in, do you feel its one more thing to have to check that really shouldn't be taking up your time? I was really against this idea as stated above. Went so far as being able to change our team back to practice pants. But after reading these thoughts, I'm starting to change my view. Who knew such a simple thing could lead to a decent discussion like this. Sweatpants when it gets cold.

We went to a jamboree yesterday and wore our volleyball knee pads under our game pants. The refs told me after one of the games that this past week they were specifically told about these by the TSSAA that they were illegal and should not allow players to wear them even in varsity scrimmages. They didn't make a big deal about it with us, and even agreed that it was a better pad and protection, they just wanted us to know they were being told to not allow them.

We only wear them to practice and check out football knee pads when we check out our game pants.

Coaches, In the Equipment thread started recently it turned to the idea of using wrestling/volleyball knee pads with integrated girdles and shorts for practices and not using practice pants anymore. This idea intrigues me as some stated that since they have gone to this they will never go back to practice pants. I thought it was worth creating a thread on this in case others that were doing this didn't see this in the Equipment thread. Any other input?? -What brand/kind of knee pads work best? Cost for a good set?? -**What if kids need to wear knee braces/side impact...does this work? -Have you experienced kids feeling "slow" once they put on full game pants on game night? -How have you best utilized the knee pads? Any other thoughts good or bad?? Thanks! FTTF My thoughts This season I want everyone one integrated girdles and shorts Knee pads are basically useless We never go live In practice We stay up on all tackles and form work We don't need knee pads Id rather them be comfortable and have more energy Girdles shorts and shells every day is what I want for our every day practice dress code

Years ago we went through a phase were a lot of our kids bought vball knee pads and used them during games. Now we are in a phase where the knee pads kids use are about the size of bottle caps.

full contact on friday, but many dont do full contact monday thru thursday. im not throwing stones or shade, but, my kids cannot differentiate the 2, if were uppers and girdles, its a good 7v7 practice and position drill day. but never do we get full contact or thud the right ways, soon as the pants come on, its different. several have full 7 pocket girdle, with knee pads built in, the rest have the 5 pocket and i have the smallest knee pads known to man. to each their own

We did it to make laundry easier. My asst. coaches didn't like it. They felt like our kids practiced better in the real thing. I think it may be like someone said earlier, it depends on the kids. We stunk, so probably didn't matter too much either way.

If you are not already in intergraded girdles, make that happen ASAP! If budget is an issue buy them for all varsity starters first. You might be amazed how many end the year in a girdle. Game knee pads are no where near the knee, in our state nor are they actually protecting anything! Our kids thigh pads are in the hip socket and knee pads, the size of quarter dollars, are at the thighs. If our kids are playing the game like this why bother wearing game pants at practice? We have been in volleyball knee pads for 5 years, at practice. BSN brand are pretty good for us.
