If they pull a knife you pull a gun. If they put one of yours in the hospital you put one of theirs. That's the Chicago way.

Don't tell me how rough the sea is, just bring the ship in. Holtz (great for assistants. Another good one for assistants: "Enlisted men may be entitled to morale problems. Officers are not. Every man in this department is responsible for his own morale. No one worries about my morale". George C. Marshall

What I say to my team when they are pissing and moaning about sprints in 100 degree 3-a-days.

From a classic
"But to beat me, he's gonna have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's gotta be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that..."
Rocky Balboa in Rocky IV, talking about DRAGO.

Those who sit and wait for something to turn up need to start with their shirtsleeves.
There are two types of people in this world...those who are willing to work, and others who are willing to let them.
Strange how some people demand so much from others, yet demand so little of themselves.
Nothing in this world worth having comes easy.
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes.
"What we do in life...echoes in eternity"- Maximus in Gladiator (My favorite quote of the movie). It may be the best line from a movie ever IMHO.

Coaches,
I only use the first paragraph of a letter written by Nichiren Daishonin (see below). It was written in 1279. I used the paragraph as a way to make the players understand how difficult to win a championship.
Coach Jimmer
"The Dragon Gate" By Nichiren Daishonin
"A waterfall called the Dragon Gate exists in China. Its waters plunge a hundred feet, swifter than an arrow shot by a strong warrior. It is said that a great many carp gather in the basin below, hoping to climb the falls, and any that succeeds will turn in to a dragon. Not a single carp, however, out of a hundred, a thousand, or even ten thousand, can climb the falls, not even after ten or twenty years. Some are swept away by the strong currents, some fall prey to eagles, hawks, kites, and owls, and others are netted, scooped up, or even shot with arrows by fishermen who line up both banks of the wide falls. Such is the difficulty a carp faces in becoming a dragon."

Recent one that I like: run the ring in the spring, to move the ball in the fall.
