To piggyback on what you are saying 5085, I think in the scheme of what you do, you have to teach the kids how to be physical and to compete. IN otherwords, I have seem some great scheme guys spend too much time on scheme and not enough time repping it out.
For example: You could form tackle all day long, which is very important, but unless you create live situations the kids may not be very physical. You can teach drive block all day long and talk about who, which is very very important, but unless you rep it out against real guys, you may run the risk of not being very physical up front. So, everything has a place. I think part of it is getting the right combination of tempos and coaching techniques.
Don't get me wrong, unless there are some twelve pound bags on the schedule, you can only go on bags so much.
Side note: One thing we have enjoyed this season is incorporating the track team's jump pits into our tackling sessions to simulate a full tackle against a real guy without the ground causing an injury. I am always worried about injuries in practice.
