Another vote for Walsh and Finding the Winning Edge. One of the best around, covers all aspects of coaching and organization.

Achtung Panzer by Heinz Guderian Actually some life lessons to be found in the book regarding change, and how often the old guard is reluctant to change.

I know he's not real popular right now, but Gary Barnett's "High Hopes: Taking The Purple to Pasadena" is interesting reading on motivation and organization in building a program. great book.

"Jack: From the gut" by Jack Welch... Amazing man was Jack. And if you ever forgot it, he'd be sure to remind you! And if he failed, he'd be the first guy to admit it. I liked in the book how he went over some of his biggest errors, and admited that he was "too full of himself" sometimes. Show me a leader who sloughs off accountability and you'll see a loser. Gotta get Jack's new book, simply titled, "Winning".

I have a tie for my favorite book:"The Adventures of Huck Finn" and "The Da Vinci Code." Favorite football book would be the Junction Boys. I realized how bad the ESPN movie was after reading the book!

Marchinko's Red Cell series, Clancy's books, Muhlbach, Emerson,.....oh, you mean football books, I've never really read any "real coaching" books, but after hearing who some of the authors are and the good reviews, I will. I think some of the books on warfare and strategy apply in broad terms to football strategy and mentality, Sun Tzu is a popular one for quotes it seems, one of my favorites that we apply in football terms is from Erwin Rommel's Infantrie Grieft An, "Infantry Attacks" detailing strategies for modern mobile warfare over the previous generations trench warfare mentality. The underlying theme is: "hit them where they are weak with lighting quickness and overwhelming strength at the point of attack", seems applicable to football to me.

What is the best book you've read, or what book would you strongly recommend? Football Defense of the Future: The 2-Level Model by John Thomson and Bill Arnsparger. The single most profound study on football defense I have ever seen. The scholarship is both encyclopedic and impeccable. Worth reading for the bibliography alone, although I defy anyone not to learn something from Dr. Thomson's recapitulation of the evolution of football strategy. Highest possible recommendation.

That was one of the first football books I read (back in high school...). What a book to pick. In actuality, I must have read the thing 10+ times from just having to go back and re-read every section to understand it. Hell of a book though. I've also read a few single wing books from the 50's and 60's (can't think of the titles right now) that I really liked.

"Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose. I underlined about 50 passages in that book. Not really meant to be a book about leadership, but there are alot of things you can use. Plus, I admire acts of selflessness in a day an age of selfishness.

Howeevr unlike like John Gruden I get more then three hours of sleep. Although sometiems it doesn't feel like it.

I have a hard time reading anything lou holtz has ever written.
the best book is the one I am reading now. it is on major dick winters of lancaster pa.
he was comander of easy company, 506 p reg. 2 bat. during world war two.
easy company aka band of brothers by HBO mini series. the book is just out and it is his story about the war.
there is also a book written on him by another guy and band of brothers written by the late steven ambrose. a wi native for you triva hounds. he believed in top down leadership.
he is still a great guy from what I hear. he is 88 yrs old and still active.
be a nice guy to meet some time.

Faith in the Game by Tom Osborne - reading this book is what got me into coaching Find the Winning Edge by Bill Walsh - covers everything How Good Do You Want to Be? by Nick Saban - blew me away how good it was I read the Bellichick books back to back and don't remember which one I liked better, but they were good, too I frequently go back to the Coverdale books for Off ideas. Pete Carroll has a book coming out that should be pretty good. I enjoy listening to him speak. Coaching Matters - 10 coaches-how they motivate/teach (I have an older book similar to this that is great)
