Do any of you do any sort of bleach-dip or Lysol cleaning of your shoulder pads? Any other ideas?

Why, are you trying to disinfect after the season or something. I don`t myself, but I reckon you could use a Lysol spray, or just some disinfectant in a spray bottle.

One of my reps last year told me to dip them in a tub with the same cleaner our wrestling team uses to clean their mats. Just dunk them in and out and let them air dry.

We wash all cloth, rib guards and sometimes even foam.
Was wondering if there's an issue with not having done anything to shoulder pads that have been in the program for multiple years.

Aside from a certain funky smell, as log as they air well in the offseason, I`ve never heard of a problem with unwashed pads. Though some might consider the smell a problem, and some might consider it a certain badge of honour.

We send our shoulder pads in for reconditioning every year and they clean them and make sure they are acceptable for use. I would think if you had pads that have been in the program for years and never sent in for reconditioning you may want to do that for liability issues.

I think that the issue Red is talking about is staph infections. It's a legitimate comcern. We do our helmets and shoulder pads about once a season.

Good point about the staph. Our pads spend about 9 months a year in an unheated storage room with 2 exterior walls, so, not such an issue for us.

Put them in the back of a pickup truck and go through a carwash.
Not sure if that takes care of staph, but is does get the pads really clean.
