One thing I would like to see is for hudl to be a little more Mac friendly. We just got hudl & it really bothers me that I can't use my Mac to download the film onto hudl. I hope they fix this.

Not sure if anyone is still reading this post at this point, but I had to have my IT people lift the "block" they had on the website. Our area doesn't allow "streaming video", so I had to request that if be lifted for the hudl website.

You'll definitely want to get this fixed before the season starts. We had a couple of coaches who were paying for broadband/high speed internet, but in fact were not getting what they paid for. Comcast and Verizon came right out and fixed it. Go to www.speedtest.net and see what download and upload speeds you're getting. Here's the our results from Comcast cable -

Mav what speed download and upload should we be getting speedtest.net will give you a score on how you compare to others with your service and with general broadband(top left bar). If you look at the image, I got 3.4 out of 5 for 30Mb/s downloads for Comcast according to Speedtest. I never get any buffering at that speed. My upload speed dropped to 3Mb/s a few weeks ago. I called Comcast and they discovered an issue and fixed it. At our school the network is throttled to only allow 5Mb/s downloads. We get very little buffering at that speed. That's about the minimum download speed I'd accept from a home connection. Quick tip - load your playlist and go through it sequentially. The Hudl servers will pre-load the next clip while your watching the current one. If you jump around in the playlist, you may see more buffering because it can't pre-load the next clips.

Question, are you able to somehow save your files or playlist and then and burn them to a DVD.

I may not be seeing the forest for the trees here, but, here we go:
Will using Hudl help me to keep individual statistics? or just general team statistics?

I have also looked into Hudl for entering live stats. You can get some individual stats, but you can not print reports on Hudl Editor. We like to have stats at halftime and right after the game. (I do not have time to publish it to the internet) Also it seems like it does not have a box score, drive chart, and team stats. This means I will have to get two guys to work computers during the game. No big deal I just wish Hudl did all the stats. Someone did post it in the Hudl forum but they have not put it on their list of things to work on.

We have run into some trouble with HUDL because we have only HD Film. The buffer time is terrible for some of our coaches. We purchased it this off-season so have not used it for a season yet. We will see how this season goes, but as of right now we will not be renewing because of buffer times.

Hi coachyarb,
Your HD film should be fine with Hudl now - it should load without any conversion necessary.
As Mav said earlier, the buffering is most likely due to your internet connection.
That said, feel free to call our support line (402.817.0063) about either of those things. They'll do their best to help you out.

I'm sure this has been asked, but I was unable to find it in a post. What camera would you as coaches recommend. I understand the different cameras available, but what is everyones opinion as far as quality of video and ease of uploading capabilities. That seems to be the main question I have to answer before I approach my boosters for the camera. FYI I am asking because we may be bringing multiple sports on and I want to make sure if the boosters buys 2-3 cameras that we are getting what would work best for everyone. We have one general boosters for all sports. Not to confuse anyone.
thanks

Remember, they have the ability to record in standard and high definition. www.hudl.com/blog/comments/hudl-camera-recommendations-2010/

Another neat thing about hudl, I just changed practice time by emailing the whole team with hudl.
Had my first experience with tech support today, I was on hold for about 4 minutes and problem solved in seconds.

my only problem Verizon, DSL That speed could be tough. I can get that speed tethering my laptop off my 3G iPhone. If you go directly from one play to the next, without reviewing the play, it take about 2 seconds for the next play to start. We've found that 5 Mbps will not have any noticeable pause between plays. You might want to look into upgrading to the Verizon 7Mbps package or better yet, go with your cable company. Typical cable gets much faster speeds than DSL -- ~15-30 Mbps.

No Cable for me,I love directtv. No faster DSL available in my area. Luckily I can take my laptop to the football office and upload after the game much faster. One game took 3 hours but it still worked. I was able to watch and edit while it uploaded. I still love it.

I'm like John Knight. My internet connection AT SCHOOL is less than 1MB/second. Love being in the country! I'm still using it at home, love it, etc. Just wish our District would join the 21st century. I also have several kids who have no internet at home at all, so we have to work around that.

this is my work speed test. Still takes a long time to add video. 150 clips, 12 hours 34 mins. That's a fast upload speed. I only get about 5Mbps and can upload a full 45 min. game in about 30 minutes. It may be more of a slow computer/encoding issue.

Our CTO was in working on support cases with us today and we ran into a nice computer that was taking forever to publish. We did a lot of digging and it turns out we found a bug with an audio driver on both Dell and HP laptops (I'm sure it happens on other brands as well) that chews up a ton of processing power on laptops which really slows down encoding. You can tell if it is affecting you by opening up Task Manager on your computer, going to the Processes tab, and you will see a weird process called stacsv64.exe using up a bunch of resources. If it is affecting you, you can temporarily "fix" it by following these steps: 1) Press Start 2) Click on Control Panel 3) Click on Administration Tools 4) Click on Services 5) Double click on Audio Service 6) Click Stop and wait for the processes to stop, then press Start. We're looking into a longer term fix that we can tell our customers to apply. If you want to get techy, you can check it out here: h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-PC-Sound-and-Audio/STacSV64-exe-IDT-PC-Audio-using-50-of-cpu/m-p/36882If you are still noticing slow encoding time, check this out and see if it helps.

I had 14 hour upload time today. I still don't have a full game up. I could not get through to tech support. 9-12 callers every time. I also tried to burn a dvd and it got only 6 clips. took an hour.

Hi Coach Knight,
During your publish, did the encoding bar get ahead of the uploading bar or did the uploading bar keep up with encoding. If encoding gets ahead, it is an internet speed issue. If uploading bar keeps up then it is a processor issue. Either way, did you check to see if the issue I posted about above is affecting your computer?
I know support had a little longer wait times today for Silver and Gold partners (a lot of people call during our expanded weekend hours) but they did get to everyone that stayed in the queue. If you don't want to wait, feel free to email support with your number and they can call you back.

I did what you said, on windows 7 there is a little more to it but I don't know if it helped but my upload or not, it was at 4 am when I go up to go to the bathroom this morning though. I will let you know howmy next upload goes. I really like this software and don't want to sound like a whiner.I just need to figure out why the long upload. It may be the network that seems to have the higher upload is not working properly.

Mav, how much faster will firewire download than USB, right now we don't have a firewire cable. My laptop is setup for 4 pin Ilink. I'm a bit confused - you have a mini-dv camcorder that you've been connecting to your new laptop via USB to transfer video? That definitely could be an issue -- especially if it's USB 1.0 on the camcorder. High speed USB2 and Firewire transfer speeds are very close, but I've never connected a mini-dv camcorder to a computer with USB to transfer video. I've only transfered still images via USB. Be sure to order the firewire cable online and NOT at your local chain. Here's a 4-pin to 4-pin for $1.73, plus shipping that sells at Best Buy for $35. www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10301&cs_id=1030101&p_id=1992&seq=1&format=2
