it is usb 2.0 mav. that is what came with the sony camera. It works fine but you can't use straight capture mode for hudl. Is that true? or is that just live capture mode?

Is it a mini-dv tape camcorder or a hard/flash drive camcorder? Maybe just post the model number? If it's mini-dv, it'll also have a iLink/Firewire/1394 port. You'll 'capture' (live or from the tape) with this port. If it's a hard/flash drive camcorder, you'll attached the camcorder to your laptop as external drive and 'Load as File' from Hudl via USB.

HDD, so it can't be firewired? That was our question, sorry for being so vague!

Why is mono price so much cheaper than anywhere else? The question is 'why are the brick and mortar chains so expensive?'. You can find similar pricing online, although we've been very happy with monoprice.com for awhile. The chains make the majority of their profits on cables, adapters, and other electronics accessories. Theirs prices must be competitive on large items such as TVs and computers, because of all the competition - Walmart, Sears, Target, etc. But these big-box stores don't typically carry accessories.

HDD, so it can't be firewired? That was our question, sorry for being so vague! That's right - HDD/flash camcorders don't have a Firewire port. In fact, Firewire is being completely phased out by the electronics industry. Even Apple stopped including a Firewire port on all their computers last year. I highly doubt the USB2 transfer is a bottleneck. The new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 is about 10X faster than Firewire and USB 2.0. It's already been manufactured on a few computers and a handful of peripherals. Camcorders will begin supporting USB 3.0 as soon it's the standard on computers.

I use Hudl and love it. It has cut my film breakdown time in half! Teams in our conference give us some reall shi**y copies of film and that does cause problems with scene detection. Is anyone else having problems with upload speeds? It is taking me around 4 hours to upload scout film (2 games) from the editor to the website.

I am having an issue with my laptop. Sometimes I get 2-3 hours upload time, sometimes 22 hours. It appears to be related to sound hardware/software!

I'd be BS if I bought a new laptop that had this issue. Tell them to either fix it or you want a new/different model that doesn't have this problem. Absolutely unacceptable, IMO.

hudl told me they are aware of it and it is not the laptop per se but a conflict in encoding.

I finally convinced the HC to get hudl. Money is still kind of an issue and we are actively recruiting other sports in the school to hop on board.
Could someone please explain to me the difference between silver and gold and if the "presentation builder" is a crucial thing to have and what it does exactly. What would we be missing out on with the silver?

We have the silver package, and have been pretty happy with it so far. I haven't used the presentation builder, but if it is like the DSV presentation window, then I would like to have it. to me, the storage isn't that big of a deal. It would be nice to have 24 hr phone tech support, but you can't get tat until the platinum package.

Trying to upload onto Hudl.com from the Hudl Video Editor, it is getting stuck on the "Encoder Speed Test"... gets to the point where there's maybe 10% remaining then looks like it is still going, but makes no progress. Any help?

Try Hudl Mercury, much faster and smoother uploads, then edit online.
Just click on the install a video capture tool icon.

Wow... What a way to help breakdown and prepare for opponents... Awesome way to communicate with coaches and players as a coordinator

Absolutely the best "new" coaching tool available- I don't believe there is anything developed in the last 25 years that can have the impact HUDL can on a players/teams development.
