As a young coach, I think alot of the time young coaches like myself forget about other aspects of the this great profession such as actual teaching of skills and X and Os to players. This past season, I worked extra hard on the actual "teaching" of skills because I have been fortuante enough to be around some great coaches who were all great teachers.
I know people in the past have posted about using video games, cut ups. Personally I am a big fan of interactive powerpoint presentations but I am just seeing if there is anything new or creative out there that maybe you would like to share or have had success with ?

What do you mean by interactive PPTs? I would like to have someone explain how they are doing the video game thing. One guy on here looks like you took NCAA 09 and put in the whole playbook to show the kids.
Teaching methods is one of the areas I think we can gain an edge. The new Game Planner is of course something amazing to teach with

The new Game Planner is of course something amazing to teach with ive seen some pretty cool interactive powerpoints for the QBS, making correct reads - guy used animation to move the DBs around the field and the QB had to click on the correct receiver to throw the ball to in each situation. for stuff like that, using a video game would probably be easier to set up and to get more reps in since you dont have to reprogram the PPT each time, you'd have to use madden though since ncaa doesnt have a play editor. each kid learns different so you kind of have to figure out where your kids are, its probably helpful to send home a DVD or something with video and a powerpoint thing, maybe record some voice overs, but it's got to be somewhat interactive or else kids will get bored.

Yes every kid is different thats why I created my animated playbook. My kids love it and cant stop watching themselve. They have no ideal that they are learning....lol so funny 2seasons ago I created same playbook on powerpoint and none of the kids read it. We had a terrible offensive season scored on 7 touchdowns. Last year my first season using the playbook I had several kids who scored atleast 7 td's.

Coach, I have both (NCAA09 and Madden09) for the PS3, but did not find the "create a playbook" feature...
Am I too exited of bringing the 49ers to the playoffs or the Hawai´i Warriors to a National Title, that I oversee them, or is there something else I could have done wrong?

Madden 07 or so is the last one to have the play editor. Apparrently the NCAA games had an edit plybook so you could change what plays but not create a play. Upside is getting a Madden 07 should be cheap and easy.

Upside is getting a Madden 07 should be cheap and easy. Playbook editor is excellent for developing passing plays, and then testing them against different defenses. I mean absolutely excellent. I set up our top 15 pass plays and ran them against a list of 20 defenses. Then I sat my QB down and reviewed them all. BIGGEST challenge was, my QB was so focused on just "playing" the game and not really in learning mode. Usually the best way to teach is to not give the QB the controlled, just run the play how it should be run, throw it to the correct read, and then watch the replay over and over. For the running game, the playbook editor is horrible.

I would like to use it for showing our fly run game. I will have to look into for the passing game stuff at a min. Are you creating the defenses also so it looks more like what you see in a game?

well to go along with the Playbook situation is to actually have you OL and QB and RB come in one day and go thru your base Offense and Videotape the plays being simulated that you rep out from a Overviewing angle and make cutups of that to go along with the passing stuff, I'm one of the guys along with coachayinde who used the Video games to create an interactive tool for our players to watch. It has worked well for us, My QB threw for 2,353 yds this season from last years 654 yds. So I'd say that the change in things has really really helped us alot, and I'll stick with it .

coachayinde shows the gun run game so I was hoping to be able to do it undercenter. If I had the players and space to do a video cutup I would. We are doing some new stuff in addition to none of the players I have will have played in this system.
I do think if I used it correctly it could be a big help. If anyone is willing to talk more about this in detail please PM me.

coachayinde used only plays that were currently on the NCAA game.. he then did some still shot overlays to label.. if you are running anything other than what is on the game.. then you are SOL.

Well then I guess we will have to use it for the passing game then

I'm telling you use your kids that are currently in the system that you already have and make play sheets to show the kids how you want the plays to look then, walk thru the plays several times and then run them. But as far as space.....Idk what part of the country you're in right now but it's a bit cold outside here and you can use your school's gym to film the Run play stuff and record from the Top bleachers or if there's an area where they videotape the Basketball games use that. or go outside (depending on the weather) and have the players backs to the bleachers facing the opposite sideline and have a kid record from either your pressbox or top of bleacher. it's really simple and you can get it done.
