This site is like a clinic break-out session everyday. If you are student of the game how can you not like that? I have love getting ideas from this site, the more outside the box the better. Because some coaches will not venture outside their comfort zone they are at a disadvantage. This site makes me think more about what I am doing maybe add a wrinkle to it and how I can do it better.Agree 100% That is just one thing I have taken from my years on here.

School that I teach at is now, AAA in Western PA, paying varsity assistants about $6,900.00 per season. Last school I was HC at my assistants made 2,300, Class A in Western PA. Very similar. AAA school in Pittsburgh. HC gets 12,000 6 varsity assistants at 6500 each 1 varsity assistant at 4500 2 freshman at 3500 each 4 junior high coaches, not sure of the salaries but our under the high school HC's jurisdiction.

I believe, like most coaches, that you are never as good as you think you are and never as bad as you think you are.
Here is Western PA, we have 2 scrimmages before the season. The first one is usually two sets of 10/10 plays, and then a set or 2 of sticks.
The second one varies. Some teams play a half, with everything live except special teams. We actually had one last week where our 1's went 10/10, and then one set of sticks and that was it.
I actually ran the same script 2 weeks in a row. That is the one thing I go back and forth about.
Should you show a bunch and adjust off of them early in the opener, or should you be very vanilla and make them adjust off of you?
We actually are "supposed" to be one of the top teams in our classification and we have 10 starters back on O, and low and behold we went up and down the field on O the last 2 scrimmages being very vanilla, but our D looked very suspect. But then again, they were very base and vanilla.
So only time will tell.

2 more things. Young man I've coached against the last 2 seasons and 2 more to come. Rushel Shell, Hopewell High School, Class of 2012. Already has every offer imaginable and is a very, very good RB. Where ever he is as a freshman in 2 years, you'll hear of him. Also, had the "privilege" to coach with NFL HOF'er thingy Butkus on an ESPN reality show. Any of you beat that? Being from west pa that Shell kid is a stud out there, saw him play in a few tv games. wow. Sorry to hear you were involved in that reality show, I remember watching it Nice to see some fellow Western PA guys on here. No doubt Shell is the real deal. I'm not the one that usually labels young kids as can't miss players, but the kid just has everything you need in a RB. Supposedly has some maturity issues (what 16 year old doessn't), but if he keeps his head on straight he'll be an absolute stud. And I'm glad someone watched that trainwreck of a show we were on. ;D ;D ;D In all honesty though, I tell people all the time that we were not going to be very good that year so it didn't matter but boy was it a nutty season. Can't believe its been 5 years already. We knew it was going to be a long year when on the second or third day Butkus told them after a practice, "Even God couldn't coach you losers!" We actually still quote him 5 years later. Very interesting fellow.

I read somewhere that the suspect was a former player who graduated in 2004, and had recently been released from prison. Drug problem, mental issues, etc, and told people that the only fun time in his life was playing for Coach Thomas...so he decides to kill him???
Absolutely tragic and senseless. Really nothing else to add.
