We practice offense, defense, and special teams every day except for Thursday. 55 mins for O & D then 10 mins for specials. Most of the starters play both ways.

Saturday- kids have off unless they want to ice bath from 8am-10am. Only need one coach for this. Film exchange is usually completed by 10:30am. Everyone watches on their own but we end up texting all day.
Sunday- 8am-2pm Coaches come and talk about the previous game, injuries, etc. Next is the gameplan for this weeks opponent. We also make cut-ups from the previous game to be shown before Monday's practice usually between 20-25 plays, The good, bad, and ugly.
I'm a big believer in being efficient. Our practices are 2 hours. 55 mins for O & D everyday with 10-15 mins for special teams.

Get rid of players with poor attitudes. Your going to win or lose without them because they're not giving themselves to team. Like 42falcon said, "you have to build a culture of the attitude."
Set to the tone to current and future players that you have high expectations and will accept nothing less than. For example, our cross town rival has some talented players but they have horrible attitudes and work ethic.....1-9 last year & 3-7 the year before.
What's the point of keeping around cancerous players? I would rather lose all my games and have players play for the coaching staff and most importantly for each other!

We've done it. Before every game during the season & playoffs, we hand out "The Black Shirts" to every defensive starter. We want to create an environment of competition. Some weeks we have the same starters, other weeks we have new starters. We only give out 11 and wear them on defensive days. And we don't have a platoon squad. We take pride in our defense and our players reflect it!!!!

Parents see their kids very differently from us coaches. They see unlimited talent but we some kid who's afraid to make contact or is no where near resembles what an athlete should look like.
On the first day of practice for our Freshmen players we tell them 3 things
1-We never talk about playing time with parents, if you don't like transfer.
2-We will play you at the position WE think you'll benefit our team, don't like it...transfer.
3-If you don't like the rules, feel free to transfer, no hard feelings. There's 2 high school where we live. But there's a reason why WE win and they don't.

Its good, gives an overview of the offense and adjustments to the defense. A great starting point for coaches who want to learn this style of offense & what triple option football is all about.

Give them an overview of your program. Discuss about what you want to achieve and how the players can help you. Show them some big crushing hits and big plays on offense to get them excited about playing.
Rules, Regulations, and Safety of the players (if they aren't familiar with the sport)
Base Offense
Base Defense
Special Teams

Great option team is tougher to defend. When you based your offense around the option you have to rep it to be successful at it. Teams that feature the option in their offense usually have a very good TB but the option suffers because the lack of repetition.

Our teams are never the biggest or fastest, but we don't allow the student athletes run the program. We've cut "star players" if they don't show up in the weight room, team meetings, grades(obvious), and violate player-coach contracts.
Student athletes need have to know what's tolerated and what's not tolerated.

We've been accused of running up the score in the past but we have always replied with "if you can't stop our 3rd & 4th string players, then you get better coaches."
You can tell a good coach with superior talent compared to a jerk who's showing off.
Just my two cents.

Icing the kicker is starting to become ridiculous. Especially calling a time out right before a field goal. It cost the Raiders a win because of this. Coach Cable calls a time out and the kicker misses it but gets another chance and makes it.

I'm in northern California, we don't have any feeder system and we have had a lot of success. We play in the second biggest section in California. We have made to the playoffs the last 7 years straight, winning our section in 07. When we get the freshmen we just coach them up.
We don't tolerate much within our program, we have let starters go on a varsity level if they don't buy into our program or if they violate player/coaches contract.
We have solid weight room with a nice speed & condition program.
But most importantly we preach family & togetherness with the players.

Coach Bruce,
DLS does not duck anybody. They only have the funds to make one trip out of the state or travel within the state, primarily in southern California(LB Poly, Mission Viejo, Mater Dei, etc) . The head coach, does not want his team to become a traveling circus, and if Indy really wanted that game they would have come to play in California just like ECA(they wanted a home & home contract too but only played in one, in Ca). If Indy still wants that game, well they are going to have to stand in line with everyone else.

I've watched De La Salle for a long time, that was the worst they've played in years. When they lost to Bellevue the players still played until the end. De La Salle players are known for playing with passion but last night was they were horrible.
In the next few years De La Salle has a lot of players who are damn good coming up. There are rumors of DLS playing Southlake Carrol in 07. Is it true?

Just poke around and ask questions, coaching is just like playing, pay attention the small details. Everyone on this boards is super nice and always willing to help out. Define your coaching philosophy, do you want run more than pass, have an unbalanced line to force the defense to overshift, etc. Just think about what you want to do and everyone will help.

Don't judge DLS by this weekend's past game as their season or past seasons. This is the last of their "average teams" because in the next few years they have a lot of great players coming up. For what ever reason they took a dump in the state finals.
