I do a Google form and it takes about 3-5 minutes for them to fill out. I get a little feedback and also let the boys tell me what they think of the program. Non of them seem to mind doing it and I tie it into turning in equipment. So as they are standing in line turning in equipment they fill it out.

Last year after hearing about it in a clinic, I decided to do a “QB School” with all the kids that played QB in the program. We started in January and did Tuesday mornings every other week. I tried to go about 20-25 minutes of classroom chalk talk and 25-30 minutes of throwing mechanics or footwork.
I think it was worth it with those kids because we’re way ahead of the year prior in the summer. The QBs helped get kids lined up right and knew what all the positions were doing. My sophomore QB has played with more confidence. My Varsity QB is having conversations about different plays and in game adjustments with me more as a coach.
This year, because kids hate to be excluded, I’m going to do an offensive line school and open the QB school up to any skill kids.

I’m hoping to get some people to respond with a title like this.
What kind of balls do you guys use for the Jugs machine? I inherited one from a past coach and they just said don’t use your game balls.

We got the 36” tackling rings for high school varsity and F/S. They seem to work well.

I know when I first got to my current school as an assistant, we had camp 4 days a week from 8-12 and then 7 on 7 two days a week from 4-7. At the beginning we had 65 guys by the end we could barely play in the 7 on 7’s. First thing I did as head coach was trim the morning stuff to 8-11 and we did two 7 on 7’s all summer. The first week the kids couldn’t believe how much stuff we got done in 8 hours of field time and 4 hours of lifting. I have a lot of kids that work and this schedule still allows them to do that.
Plus I’m getting more kids at camp now then when I was an assistant. Too much kill their love of the game.

We’ve done it the past 2 years. Last year and this year our top point totals will be by our QB, he’s going to be a junior. Our seniors had bad seniority with and many of them didn’t get the number they wanted but they also didn’t play much so it was what it was. This past year I opened the points up to also going to games and activities. The kids had to put a pic on Twitter with the scoreboard or competition in the background. I gave the kids in a sport a chance to earn extra points. It also seemed to level the playing field for kids who work 3-4 days as well. Next year we were talking about points for grades or # of missing assignments for our not as academic kids. docs.google.com/document/d/1bkkXmCYpJxAed3dIir8o83A94Bnwywj5Z7-zgLSEEuU

It was about the price of a new sled. I bought the coaches choice dvd which I thought was really good. I paid $15 instead of $6000. Could you provide a link for that? I can't seem to find it. Here is the link for the dvd. It’s a coaches choice product. coacheschoice.com/m-1210-scott-peters.aspx I don’t have the link for them to come out. I guess I deleted it too long ago. I’ll keep looking and if I find it i’ll PM you.

In the summer we do a circuit everyday. Once the season starts we will do one Monday - Wednesday. We will rotate between 3 different ones, Defensive tackling, Offensive tackling and combo.
Defensive - I took from Paul Golla from CA Rip Technique Butt Press Shed Turn Over Tackling
Offensive - we are a double tight reach team Reach Trap/Ball Security Screens/stalk blocking Tackling
Combo - this is basically were each coach takes his favorite drill and does it Screens/stalk blocking Onside recovery Butt Press Shed Tackling - this last one changes more to what we need to work on for the week but we try to tackle everyday.

If you want to do something don't let it be super structured. We always do an end of the year paintball night. Lets both the coaches and players take some steam out on each other. Or we try and take a group to the local college football game. While it is close most of them have never been since we have D3 or FCS teams around. Lets them be together and have fun but not feeling like another thing they have to do. All of this is optional even to the coaches. We will always have at least one coach who will volunteer though. I’ve done paintball when I was at another school. It was a good time. Our players don’t have a ton of support around them. So by keeping in contact with them they feel that someone cares. It just is something that is one the continueing growing list of coaching responsibilities.

We did it this year until we had to bring up more sophomores because of injuries. We also did a grade check/study hall after school on Thursday. However, the boys were out within 45 minutes of the end of the school day. They all said they really liked it. It gives them more time to get a “full” recovery or be as good as possible.
When we had to go back to after school on Thursday, I didn’t see much change and their energy or focus on Friday.

Awards

We do 6 individual awards at our end of year gathering: MVP, Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP, Offensive Limenan of the Year, Most Improved and Captains Choice. The first 5 are voted on by the kids then the last one, is my favorite, the captains have to pick someone who is not all conference or getting one of the other awards and isn’t a captain that they feel is a major contributor to our football program. They also give the speech about the player before the award is given out.
For all our seniors we do dog tags. It has their name, number, and positions on it.

so Our school makes us wait to start our offseason lifting until January. I figured we don’t want the guys to wander around without direction so I figured we’d do some team building. However, I don’t have a lot of team building activities. Do you guys have any that worked well or didn’t work well?

I'm looking at getting a new sled for the high school I'm at. They expanded the athletic budget somehow. I was wondering if anyone has used the Fisher Bull or Boomer sled? I want to get a lev-sled but unsure of which one to go with. Any suggestions would be great!

We currently use Riddell but I was wondering what helmets are the best or that people have had the best experiences with or if they have seen any difference between brands. Just asking because they changed my rep and the new is more than a little shaky. So looking into alternative helmets.
