In that case the answer to the question is "No". 1 or 2 out of 5 or 6 is a pretty good percentage. Far greater than them getting anything for playing 6 man football. Yeah, I know that obliviously. Put of this was to ask how to get kids like that to play football

Maybe 1 or 2 kids every year. But it hardly happens. They get cocky & parents get in their heads...etc. I'm a little confused. You said the school is producing 1 or 2 scholarship basketball players a year. But then you said it hardly ever happens. Can you explain? If your school is producing 1 or 2 scholarship basketball players a year, that is amazing. Not like it actually happens. I just meant we get that kinda talent. I don’t think we’ve gotten one D-1 player tho

These are interesting times we're in. After being a dumpster fire for years our baseball program has finally had success the past two years. I'm the baseball HC and a football AC. I've got kids telling me, "I don't want to play football because it will ruin my chances for baseball." I tell them, "Son, football will make you a better all-around athlete. I can't stress enough how much I think you should play other sports besides baseball." If I were not a football coach and was the protective type none of the baseball kids would be football or basketball kids.
I talked to a football coach at a nearby private school the other day. After going undefeated this past year their players are flying out of there, getting picked up by bigger programs that give athletic scholarships. His school gives zero athletic or academic merit aid, only financial aid based on a strict equation. He said they went from 55 kids down to 3 (not including incoming freshmen). They are terminating their football program because of it.
This is a crazy time to be coaching.
See, at least they have you putting in a word for them. The crazy part our school is, is our Head PE Coach is the Head boys basketball coach. I don’t think I’ve heard him say once to his boys they should play football or at least suggest it. Yet we’re over here saying for go it cause it’s a great way to say conditioned in the off season

Do they legitimately have a chance to get basketball scholarships? Maybe 1 or 2 kids every year. But it hardly happens. They get cocky & parents get in their heads...etc.

So I coach down here in Texas at a VERY small private school. We have won 2 state Titles 2013, 2014. Those were the good old days... but basketball has just ran over our school. Don’t get me wrong our school is great at basketball. But we have slowly declined the last couple years. Including a 1-9 season this year. And the first time not making the playoffs in 7 years. I can almost guarantee we would’ve be contenders for State if at least 5 of our top Basketball boys came out and played with us. But their “afraid to get hurt” and ruin their chances at a college basketball scholarship.
And now all I’m hearing around the school is that the reason kids don’t wanna play now is cause “no one wants to play for a losing team”... which just pisses me off. Cause if more people would play we wouldn’t have this problem!!
And just clear up some confusion. We’re a 6 man team. (Texas plays either 11 man or 6 man). And as you small school coaches know. NUMBERS MATTER.
I guess my whole point of this rant is to ask this question. How on earth do y’all get more kids to come out and play football?

I had to throw wedge out the window for now, as we're having the hardest time with the snap to the FB. What's happening with it? I use the "dead snap" and my center just wants to fire it back there. I even told him to do a soft snap but he still gets pretty confused.

I had to throw wedge out the window for now, as we're having the hardest time with the snap to the FB. Power is our main play. Been great for us.
And when I call a play, 80 % of it is Down & Distance and how often I've run something. But the other 20 % is just by watching if they have shifted there line or the LBs are over spilling to your playside. Usually it's pretty easy to see if they are shifting there line cause you'll usually here the Coach for them yelling that out. It'll also been pretty easy to know if you know that team's HC was scouting you the previous week before. It's extremely hard for me to see all that as the HC/OC so I will later on get one of my assiant coaches to about 20-30 yards behind the defense (on the sideline) and just see what they're doing pre & post-snap.

I am Coach. We are off this week, game wise due to Easter week. But so far so good. Single winging it. Won our season opener last week 24-0. Great to hear Coach. Just finished our second game of the season (we still played even though its Easter weekend). So far so good on our part as well, running the single wing as well with success. Running the wide tackle 6. We're 2-0 but schedule is looking to get tougher. That's defenily good to hear. I'm running a version of the SW I call the "Texas single Wing." Since we're down here in SA,TX. Someone might call it something different, but it's fun for the kids. .....T.G.C.1.2.3.4....... .............F....P......W.. ..........S................... I have 4 different kids I can move all around in the backfield. All run my "Superback" position very well. Guess you can say we have a "4 headed monster" backfield. Lol. Having an extra week to prepare should help us out though. We have about 5 more games left, then Playoffs.

Our Coach makes a script for every practice and (most of the time) gives one to me. It'll say something like "Warm-ups 2:45-3:00" Like it's only supposed to take 15 minutes...They end up being done by almost 3:30. Because they take their sweet freaking time getting over to the field (Because they know they can, cause of warm-ups.) And they're talking and the self-stretches take the longest time on earth. Our HC usually has to pull something from his script because we're always behind schedule.
This is why I'm a fan of this. Doing some light Indy is a great way to start it.

Besides what other coaches have said, look back at last seasons film (Like I would a TON) And take notes on those certain players and see where you can improve them. Work on those specific areas with them, while also building up their current strengths.

F**K TRACK!! hahaha....kinda We paid for the equipment, as well as the upkeep. We allow other teams to use it, we make appropriate adjustments to our own schedule to accomodate teams...but it's our room. We have a machine room on campus anyone can use any time, but the squat racks, platforms, and dumbbells are ours. And really, as I mentioned in another thread, no coaches at our school REALLY wants to lift anyways. Hey man, don't be hatin' on track, it's giving me something to do... But I get where y'all are coming from. We are lucky enough to have a small enough school where we can get most of our kids all in the weight room...and I mean every single kid in the school lol. But the thing that sucks about it is that some of the track kids (That play football) come up to me at practice and say "We're exhausted...we did a leg workout today"...Like what knucklehead knows they have practice that night and is making them do legs during the day...like what?!? But again, I'm just the Special teams guy lol.

I didn't know football fields could run! (ok bad joke, interesting thing that never crossed my mind though) Probably runs faster then most of the players do....

Anybody in the NJCAA can offer a Full ride if they wanted to I believe. This is not necessarily so. Conference rules typically dictate scholarship guidelines for their membership. Ahhhh okay. I stand corrected lol

Coaches, I like the idea of making it free at first. My worry is just not getting income to keep it it running. But I understand what your saying. If this was free, would this be something you would look into and possibly invest time into?

I don't know what "stargies" are but I'm not going to pay for them. We have this site, then blogs by people such as Deuce, Brophy, Chris Brown, others that are free. Coaches can also go to clinics such as Glazier, Nike, and at colleges-universities to get what you're talking about if they want to spend money on it. Coach, the point of my idea is to make it the Netflix of football. Plus the money goes towards buying flim, dvds, and getting the best coaches to post something. I don't have that money, I don't run the best football website out there

I wanted to see other coaches opions on this. The main thing would be a website. With a most likely monthly fee. From $8 a month to $12 depending on what you wanted in your package. My idea is everyday post something offense related. With a play diagram and an article explaining that play. Now if you have the plan with diagram and video. Then there will also be a video in there with a coach drawing the play and explaining it. Maybe even having players run the plays on a field. (not sure if I could do this yet) now the third plan would include Game film, which I still need to find out how to get my hands on some. I know some websites have free flim. But I still need more than just a couple. But the cool part about this would be I'd have a defense coach you'd also post the same day on the same subject to say how he'd stop these certain plays/offenses with differnt defenses. This Company would also travel to do Clinics and make playbooks for coaches who want them and also help install this offenses or defenses. This would take some time to get started. But not a whole lot. This is my dream. And I'm definitely ready to start. If anybody is interested or has any suggestions please let me know!! Thank you!!
