Hey guys,
This will be my 2nd year teaching (PE/Weights/Health) at a very small school. I coach all 3 seasons; football, girls basketball, and middle school baseball. Anyway, we have our town day coming up and are looking for some ideas. We are going to try and do a couple fundraisers for the weight room because it is probably one of the worst in the country (not really, but close).
We are planning on having a cornhole tournament in front of the bar/restaurant. This is something we are hoping to get all involved, old and young. $20 per team, winners get a $50 gift certificate to the bar/restaurant. The winners would also get to keep one of the cornhole sets (we will have two of them). Losers get a pat on the back. 1 cornhole set will have our schools colors/logo on them and the other will have a local college on it. Winners get to pick, the other one will be auctioned off. These are hand made boards, nice wood, and donated to us.
The other idea we had was a bench press fundraiser. We are planning on picking 1 guy from each class and having them rep out with a certain amount of weight (Sr. 135#, Jr. 100#, So. 75#, Fr. 45#). We want to keep weight lower so reps will be higher and harder to guess or at least a wider range. Charge $1 per guess or $5 for 6 guesses. We have the tie breaker all sorted out. We would include the girls, but they have volleyball that day. We were also going to have a list of what we wanted to purchase, pictures of broken and worn out equipment, etc.
Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions if they have done something like this, or ways to make it better. This will be our first fundraiser, so a little nervous about how it will go. I am the one running it, along with my wife. This isn't school sponsored because then the money would have to go into the general fund. Thanks, guys.
