Have upcoming seniors draft their teammates for a team. Create a scoring system that rewards a championship effort, good grades, community service, etc. and loses points for slacking, poor grades, disciplinary problems, etc.

Has anyone cut out Flex? I know I've heard of programs that just go straight into a extra Indy or Fundy period. I feel like flex is a lot of the time a waste. Thoughts, opinions? Coach, when I played in college each position was responsible for their pre game and pre practice stretching

When I was in high school the best OL was named "dominator". Could use that.

I see both sides of this.. I would never leave my starters in late in a blowout game and score as much as possible, go for it on 4th, or onside kick it. But I am going to call plays to put the backups and benchwarmers in as good of a position as possible. Those kids deserve the same coaching effort as starters in my opinion.. Now there are definitely gray areas, but I am never gonna tell or coach a kid that has worked hard in practice that just because we are winning that we can't and aren't going to score.

Coaches, we had a staff member have his gallbladder taken out unexpectedly. They are shifting me up to the box to take his place. What are some pointers on what to look for/focus on? I will be mostly focused on the opponents defense. primarily the front 7. Thanks in advance!

What do you with guys that are a little banged up? They may play friday or possible out a week or so? I hate seeing guys in street clothes throwing footballs around at practice. Looking for suggestions? This, for me, depends on the severity of the injury and which player it is. If it is something the player can walk around with, just not play with, and rehab will not change that, he is at practice listening and learning. If he needs rehab, rehab.

"If it's too tough for everyone else, it's just right for us" "V=N^3Q". Which means victory equals never never never quit Not a huge fan of the second, but I was on a team that used it. Had it on t shirts and bracelets. Let me guess... HC was a math teacher? Nope. I have no idea where it came from. It was actually when I played in college.

Could it be a case of the kids not understanding exactly what you mean? For example, when I played in college as a freshman my coach would say things that the older guys knew and understood, but I was clueless. This made me seem uncoachable, and other things that have been discussed. But that wasn't it. I only needed a little more demonstration/explanation. Sometimes we forget that the kids don't know exactly what we mean when we say something, or at least I do

Competition, I feel goes a long way to motivating kids. Make everything competition. This year we had players vote on a leadership committee. Then we had that committee have a draft of all remaining players to form platoons. Those platoons compete constantly. Events, fundraisers, lift-a-thon, conditioning, attendance. You name it we compete in it. Platoons get points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. For attendance you get points when everyone on your platoon is present for the workout. Peer pressure is a wonderful thing when used appropriately. The ultimate reward this year in the fall will be the winning team having an ice cream social while the rest of the platoons do conditioning one day at practice. The losing platoon, gets to clean up the mess left from the ice cream social after conditioning. Did this once in college. Went from 5-5 to a conference championship. Had a lot of good leadership

I've found that self motivation in a team is directly related to leadership. I guess we need more of it. Can't make kids lead though, another thing they have to want

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but I am not following. This post was mostly directed towards the weight room. I guess I should have stated that.

How do you guys go about motivating your kids to work hard? The kids are good kids and do what we ask, but lack intensity. I don't want them to do it because I say.. I want them to want it. I want to establish that culture. Am I expecting too much?

We went out as positions.. Special teams(kickers, holders, snappers, returners), WR, DBS, LB, OL, DL. Do all skill specific stretches and drills, then come together for 6 plays, kick a PAT, Punt, team storms the return man when He catches ball. Break it down. Go into locker room for the "calm before the storm"

May I ask as to the nature of some of the injuries? They may not be related to the contact. I have found that a lot of injuries happen when guys get lazy or aren't going as hard as the guys around them. This causes them to get rolled up, knocked/thrown down, and receive the punishment rather than give it. I feel that hitting is fine, as long as your team can go at full tempo without taking kids to the ground. Maybe the kids do not realize that they are still supposed to go full speed without tackling? Just a thought, I hate to see kids get hurt so hope that or someone else can help!
