I started having a night probably back in 2015 or so. I just merged it with my spring parent meeting, first 45min or so is for everyone and I go over summer schedules and season sign-ups, then go in to the recruiting portion which takes about another 45min(I tell people they're free to leave if they'd like). Here's a copy of the slideshow I've put together and go over. I expand quite a bit on each slide and give personal experiences from recruiting and how it always changes. docs.google.com/presentation/d/1DBy6HczK4F7pEFHVAix62b9WbF6Vs4TqgAEStPkeoY0/edit?usp=sharing I handle everything related to recruiting as the head coach, I used to have a coach that would help at times but he's no longer on staff anymore. Definitely understand why some staffs would designate this position to an assistant coach, as it can take up a lot of time. Especially when coaches are wanting to come through the schools to talk and meet with players. I'm fortunate to have an administration that understands how important it is when these coaches come through the schools. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. The slideshow needs to be updated for this year, especially with info about the transfer portal as I've never seen anything like this year before.

I started keeping track a year or two ago of exactly what type of helmet each kid had and what size to help with ordering new ones each year. I also wanted to form my own data on concussions to steer my purchasing decisions. Here's my inventory, what we passed out, and then what was left over from this past season. Once I get my reconditioning report and see what I'm losing I"ll then look at this to determine what sizes I need to buy.

These are probably what you're thinking of www.rogersathletic.com/spacer-cans/ but I can't drop that kind of money on a "trash can" I've picked up some of those beverage tubs from Aldi for $4 or $5 when they go on sale in the spring. They're cheap plastic, just don't let the kids sit or lean on them.

Something to keep in mind is some school districts(mine) won't let me use district funds to stay at a Casino Hotel, so that limits my ability to bring my staff. Also, any chance you guys can secure a w9 form from each hotel and post on your site under the hotel info section? I really wanted to go back to Chicago last year but couldn't get a response from the hotel(Hilton Oak Brook) with the w9 so I went to KC instead, however I'd like to go back this year to Chicago for the March 1 one and still need the w9 before I can make my reservations. Coach this is incredibly helpful. Adding the W9's to the website is something we can conquer pretty quick. The info about your district not allowing casino hotels is good insight as well. Any idea how prevalent this is; districts not allowing casino hotels? Honestly I don't know, I asked my admin last year about the Nike in Tunica and it was a no-go, so I paid out of pocket for 1 room, but I take my staff to your clinics and get multiple rooms, that come from my budget and I of course need to use a PO, so anything at a Casino is a no go unfortunately.

AFCA- very excited to get back to San Antonio Glazier clinic- Minneapolis- moved it to a casino- might not be good Salt Lake City- Cottonwood- hyped for a great opportunity Minn. is going to be great this year Coach. The hotel is spectacular. The Doubletree kept raising room rates and we couldn't do that to the coaches. We are finding the casino hotels work hard to keep room rates down for coaches. There are OL & DL specialty tracks and Head Coach Academy at that clinic. We worked hard this past year to bring new and even more detailed topics to you. You can see the schedule here www.glazierclinics.com/Coaching_Clinics/Minneapolis-Minnesota-Football-Clinic#the-hotel-sectionOne tip for this hotel is to use discretion when bringing in your own beverages. Hotels have rules on outside beverages and in most cases this doesn't cause any issues but discretion is best. Stacks of cases on luggage carts will draw attention at this hotel. Protip: Pack your clothes in the cooler and beverages in the suitcase. Does anyone use an app to take attendance? We've used the traditional clipboard for years, but it sucks if the coach assigned attendance forgets it or it gets caught in the rain. I followed this youtube video using google sheets and forms. Our kids warm-up w/ their position coach, each coach has a google form with the list of their kids, they simply check if they're present and then submit. They fill out a new form each day, same link. All forms talk to the same google sheet, then within that file I have 2 sheets(tabs) one where the data tells me how many practices each kid has made out of the total, and another where it is our season schedule and shows each day the athlete was present. When kids quit or get kicked off I simply black out the box with the highlight feature and leave their data of practice attendance there in case I need it later.

We have 1650 in our school and usually carry about 125 in our program(9-12) although numbers were down this past season and we were around 100. We go 3 days a week(Mon, Tues, Thurs) from 545am - 645am. This was our first week and we had 90, 95, and 91 respectively. We had 110 that made at least 1 day with our largest class being our incoming 9th graders(current 8th). This is by far the largest group we've had in the morning, needless to say they are bought in.
We do have a weight training class offered during the day(open to everybody) but I stopped telling my players to take it since it became a dumping ground to place kids that didn't want to be in other classes. Plus, I much prefer having the team together in the morning as opposed to broken up and scattered throughout the day. We only have a few that wrestle or play basketball, but almost all of them attend our morning workouts. We have A LOT that participate in baseball or track, and again most will come lift in the morning. Only other sports that lift would be wrestling and track, but pretty much only in-season for them.

I get cutting the playing time, but how do you handle this during the off-season, how about with kids playing other sports, or the one's who don't come to your team workouts? As far as my last question, I understand the old "they won't play if they aren't showing up" but they're still on the team and bringing down the Team GPA. And I'd rather find a way to help the kid then just cut them loose and watch them fail out of school. I'd like to find a way to reach the kids that seem to detach from the team from Nov. till June.

I got a 50" flat screen and placed it inside my coaches office looking out of the window that goes in to our locker room. I use google slides to post anything I need: practice schedule, monthly calendars, meeting times/days, offensive/defensive goal boards, motivational slogans, anything, possibilities are endless.
As far as the lockers go, probably need to go through the school district, that's what I did a few years ago...had to prove that they were so banged up that kids could break in to them whether they were locked or not.

I get the Thursday meal, but our team leaders have done a great job of getting the team out to different restaurants and spending time together. It'd be another night for my staff and myself to be away from our families. I'm more concerned with getting food in them after school Friday before the game. Thankfully, this is the most work I'll have to spend on meals all year. Thanks again for the input.

Thanks for the input, for the most part we're on the right page. I just wanted to provide our new meal coordinator with something solid and love the first pdf that John Knight shared. We're going to scrap the deserts(obvious reasons) and salads(kids didn't like anyway and they're hard to digest). We'd have pastas, subs, baked chicken but occasionally their'd be a chicken tender day that would pop up and I don't want the kids eating fried food like that. A couple years ago we had a parent smoke some pork and we had pulled pork, damn near lost half my staff to heartburn during pre-game. Kids loved it though.

I'm wanting to talk with my boosters about "cleaning up" our pregame meal and am looking for suggestions that would give the kids the best benefit. We typically eat around 3:15pm for a 7pm kickoff. Any suggestions for both food and drink that you guys serve?

I got rid of our after school pre-game walk thru. Wasn't ever happy, too many kids easily distracted. Instead we did a team lift for about 30 min. Nothing crazy, light weights on explosive and press movements to get hips loose and muscles firing. Then a couple arm exercises to make them feel big and pumped. Kids loved it! I had some flat screens installed in our weight room over break, this season I'll put together a highlight clip against our opponents each week and play that while we hit the lift.

Opinions will probably be split on this as they were on my own staff.
We played a very talented team week 2 that some thought could make a run for a title. Our opening drive my FB says he lost his wristband, we have guys looking all over the field, my pbox staff is looking, can't find it. It crosses our mind that maybe the other team has it, so my sideline and pbox staff are looking at their coaches and players, see nothing. Game ends and we win 12-6, big upset victory for us. We're cleaning up on the sideline and my pbox filmer comes down to give us the camera and he's got the wristband, says one of the other coaches gave it to him after the game. We get back and on film you can see their DL rip it off my FB's arm in the middle of the play and then run towards his sideline waving it in the air at their coaches.
Me and my DC thought it was bs, while my LB coach didn't know why we cared since he couldn't understand what I had on there anyway.

Anyone make Slosh Pipes? Have any recommendations for size and amount of water? What are slosh pipes ? I feel like I should know.... It's a PVC pipe filled with water. From what I researched I was going to get 4" diam. PVC either 8' or 10' long. Glue a cap on 1 end, fill with water(was thinking 2 with 3 gallons for the little guys, 2 with 4 gallons, and 2 with 5 gallons for the big guys), Glue a cap on the other end. Was going to color code the caps for the different weights. Then guys have to do certain drills, like carry chest high across their chest for 20 yards, carry over their head, squats, lots of things...also what I'm hoping to get more suggestions on. The water sloshing around is supposed to really help them develop their core and get a great physical workout. I'm gonna try it out for the 1st time this summer.
