The shortage of officials is a real problem in our state. Games are having to be rescheduled (from Fridays to Thursdays or Saturdays) because of it. Not to mention Sub-Varsity. Can't help but affect the quality of the sport. What are the contributing factors for the official shortage? Personally… -some coaches/fans just being generally unbearable. Loud, rude, obnoxious. Fans are often easy to laugh off/ignore by their lack of knowledge, but still not an enjoyable place to be. But when coaches don’t even know/understand the rules/calls and want to cause a scene it’s awful. -Multiple times coaches becoming irate and accusing me of effecting the outcome of a game (several times it came after only a few plays and 1 penalty). And I can honestly say I have never been involved in a game where officiating effected the outcome. -being cornered in a school after a game by coaches and questioned/guilted about a call -being approached and threatened in the parking lot by an assistant coach -being threatened on many occasions by fans. -several times requiring a police escort to leave the field, and even at the gas station after a game. -witnessed another official who was threatened to be shot by a semi pro-player (who was a felon, and lost his NFL opportunity because of off the field and had been in and out of jail for violent offenses) -lots of time for ok pay. A single varsity game takes about 5 hours when you consider travel, having to be there an hour before the game, and the game itself. Pay around here varies from $65-90 for one varsity game. $130-160 for a freshman/varsity double header. Pair this with all of the above and it’s hard to get guys in and retain them as officials.

I just went onto humanmetrics.com they do still have the test on there for free. I just did it and got INTJ. Pretty accurate especially when I looked at the learning styles section.

Not worth it honestly. Go to a chiro and get adjusted. Find out the cause of your pain (spinal alignment, anterior/posterior tilt, ect.) and do something about it.
Many times back problems can be traced back to flexibility issues in the hip.

Used to be in the same conference as me. They made the playoffs 3 or 4 years ago because of 3 very athletic kids, but they've just never had big football numbers (maybe 25 when they made the playoffs). And last 2 seasons they have had to forefit multiple games because they didn't have enough kids.
Because of this they were basically kicked out of 2 different conferences. From what I've heard the super intenant and school board are not supporting the coach at all and are basically doing everything they can to cut football and start a soccer program.

Make note of tempo and any changes in tempo because you can't tell on the cut up versions on hudl.
Our guys when they were at these games were more focused on personel. Several teams we completely shut down because they moved their best lineman to the play side. Something we couldn't tell from the film.
Also same with another team and a WR. Whenever he wasn't aligned in his normal position they were going to take a shot deep to him.

Still create personel groups but instead of calling them 10, 11, 21 ect. Give them each names and have a group of plays for each grouping.
So one personel might be called flash, where both your fast guys are in the slot and have a set of plays to take advantage of their speed
Another might be called jumbo, where both your te's are in the box.
The posibilities are endless. Could get confusing, so maybe just try to add 1 or 2 new groupings each week

Track athletes run longer than their event at the beginning of the season to build up their base endurance then get specific conditioning for their event as the season progresses.
100 runners run 300's 200 runners run 400's 400 runners run 600-800's
So I think it's perfectly acceptable to run 300yd shuttles at the beginning of the season to build a base conditioning that gets more football specific as the season approaches

I would say I don't have a superstition but a routine. Kind of like a sprinter getting into the blocks. It just mentally prepares the coach (or sprinter) for competition.

What is trash can football? Please explain. Think basketball but with a trash can and a football. -When you get the ball you can run until you are touched. -You can throw or pitch the ball whenever you want -Just do anything possible to score -Can get a little physical just make sure you limit how rough they get

One team building thing we did in the offseason was trash can football. It's competitive and the kids love it. Each team has a trash can to defend. You can run with the ball until you are touched. You can pitch or throw the ball at anytime. Do anything possible to score.
I feel like this also gives the coaches an idea of who can do what. You will notice the kids who could return kicks or throw for a trick play right away.

At my school we never retired jerseys. We did something I thought was pretty cool.
We had a former coach that was at our school forever and he would come in before the first game and tell great stories of former players based on the number they wore.
Got the kids excited for the season and reminded them of the great tradition of our high school program.
He would talk about everything, unforgettable blocks, a freshman coming in after a jv game and scoring 4 td's, sportsmanship, anything you could think of that comes to mind when you think of small school football.
