An investment in football. Something pac12 brethren Stanford has decided not to do. I give credit to the admin who after 20 years decided that it might be a good thing to have a decent football team. CU was the worst power 5 team last year. Their stats were embarrassing, look at their leading rusher stats or total sacks. Deon has flipped this roster, if they win 5 games it’s the most since Mel Tucker who was then promptly hired by Michigan St which doubled his salary. If Deon fails at CU at least the university has showed that they once again care about football.

Call him and if he doesn’t answer, leave a message. Do you realize how many emails a HC gets in a day? Even if he wanted to get back to you it’s so easy to have the email get lost in the shuffle of emails from Admin, parents, kids, Etc.. Don’t have his phone number, find it. Camp flyer, school directory, etc.

Just finished our 7 game season. Here are my thoughts and opinions. - 1 kid non-symptomatic (tested for non-football related surgery)- quarantined 1/2 the team to start the season due to class he was in. - No other positive tests for 9 weeks we were together - Did film outside. - No late season sick/coughing outbreak unlike every other season. My unofficial opinion was that we had individual water bottles. - Eligibility issues were a bigger problem than normal (take note spring coaches): - Kids are getting away with excuses more than usual, accountability is extremely important. - Most players choose remote learning to avoid a cohort testing positive (take note spring coaches). -Didn’t really notice lack of fans in the stands the last couple of weeks. (Although almost every study I have read states it is highly unlikely to catch COVID outdoors and more then 6 feet of social distancing but Politicians like control more than common sense so whatever.) - Be creative regarding team dinners, etc. - I enjoyed the fact that I could coach all the way to the 10 yard line. - Played revised schedule without any issues. - Kids need Coaches, sports and structure more now than ever. Not sure the people that want to control our lives understand or care about our young people unless it helps advance their political agenda. Pressure them to play winter/spring sports. Be your players advocate!

I am wondering how many HCs are thinking about what if we DO have games from a coaching stand point this fall. What happens if the HC tests positive or one of the coordinators? What happens if a trainer or a manager tests positive? If one of the players test positive? Do you test or quarantine the entire team and forfeit the next week or two? Have you cross trained your staff?
We are back to team conditioning but I just can’t see how this works out to having a season. I am now of the mindset that there won’t be a season but since it hasn’t been canceled the ruling body feels we need to prepare for it even though the chances of playing this season are slim at best.

Sounds like a coach that wants to make himself feel good (hey look at what I did). Everything I do/call at practice or in a game is solely in the best interest of the TEAM (Black/White/Brown/Purple doesn’t matter) with no other agendas. Our kids work too hard to do anything that isn’t in their best interest in trying to win. There are other individual ways to show support if that is what you want to do.

We usually play on Friday night (except for this upcoming season), Saturday 7:30 am - coaches meet and watch film 8:30 Kids run/lift (usually with strength coach) 9:30 Watch film w/kids 11 - Watch JV or start watching next week opponent if we have film Sunday Coaches watch and break down next opponent ( I am DC, so usually 8am to 12pm) 6pm - 8ish: Meet as a staff and Game Plan
As for grading film, I am not a big fan of it, there are only so many hours during the season.

I am a big fan of Under Armour shirts and shorts. I am lucky as there are a couple of outlets nearby. Picked up a shirt for $4 off the clearance rack yesterday. TJ Max or Marshall’s also has UA gear discounted as well.

I was at youth football game today and after the kids kept getting penalized for borderline blocks/tackles, they started saying to each other “ok guys no more hit sticks”. Like many in this society their football knowledge comes from Madden or fantasy football.

Much ado about nothing? Coaches the team to a 16-0 record, wins a state championship and the players support him. But his job is clearly in jeopardy and no serious allegations have been brought against him.?. Huh.

CSU typically has one and Nike COY has done one in the past but didn't last year. CSU Pueblo has also typically put on a coaches clinic.

Watching Iowa vs. UM, I don't understand why teams (HCs) go for two instead of taking the extra point in the 1st half of a game or even in the third quarter. That 1 point can be very valuable at the end of the game. It just isn't a very logical approach. Is this just a "feel good" aka we are tied sort of move?

In Colorado, if you declare that you are taking a knee the opposing team can't touch you. If so its a unsportsmanlike. Wasn't sure if I agreed with the rule but after seeing this crap I have no problem with that rule. Those officials should be embarrassed.

Must be a bunch of Offensive coaches on this board. Denver's D was outstanding, the quickness of the edge rushers, the interior pressure and physical corners and safeties. You want to stop spread offenses here is the D. Enjoy and appreciate that unit, a lot of special talent. Not a great game from an offense perspective but from a defense perspective a beautiful game and special teams played a part as well. Football is more than just a fancy offense.

It does suprise me how many HC are not aware of time, timeouts and the play clock. Here it's 25 seconds. Multiple times I have reminded theHC just to take a knee and that we could run out the clock or at least make the other team burn all their TOs and leave little on time left on the clock.

I think just me. I will then use something from a specific topic/forum and it's interesting to see it be repeated from other coaches. I wear my Huey shirt enough that I would think more coaches would ask about the site.

Being in a program that went 8-32 over the past four years, I can say yes, there are some schools that can never win. I am at a winning program now, and here is what they have. 1st, great coaches at all levels, many who coached for a year or two at a bad school and moved on to a winning program. 2nd -Depth, if your 1st team tb who you count on misses practice, the 2nd team back isn't too far behind, not true at most losing programs. 3rd support from parents, admin and the community. Most losing programs parents/admin/community don't care about anything, grades, if their kid shows up to practice, if their kid plays or if the team wins or loses or for that matter if the coach is any good. At winning programs, parents/community and Admin care about all of the above, which can be a pita but better than the alternative. God bless those coaches who stay at programs that can't win, but for competitive people, it is almost an impossible task. I still feel that the states athletic associations can do a better job by putting those losing programs in the same conference. As a coach, and I am sure a kid, it feels better going into a season knowing you can be competitive in almost all your games compared to going in and thinking wow, we might be able to win two or three if everything falls right.

Ours is A: JV and Freshman, get called up for the school's participation award, but no talking about each individual kid. Varsity, each player get's called up, and a coach presents a brief highlight of player's accomplishment/benefit to the team. We like this approach trying to keep the entire team as part of the football family.

Our state has players sign a contract to not smoke, drink or chew or they will be suspended. Just because Cigarettes are Marijuana are legal for those rare few over 18 doesn't mean you can use them football is a privilege not a right. We had three kids that got caught last season and they were suspended one game. Missed another because they had to take a class. (20% of their season gone).
