Themes that we used this year: Future Falcons Night (Youth Football teams were recognized. Kids got in free with their jersey) Teacher Appreciation Night Father/Son Night Military Appreciation Night Live Pink Cancer Awareness Night All of these were pretty successful for us and the turnout was great. What did you guys do for father/son night? Did you let them in free, give them something, have a pregame cookout, etc....?? We had the fathers wear the away game jersey of their son, or football gear if the jersey didn't fit. The father's met the players at our locker room and walked to the field side by side with their son. We recognized and thanked all of the father's for all that they do as parents. The fathers were allowed in the game for free. I like the idea of a pregame cookout and we might steal that for next season. This was the first time that we did the father/son night. We also do a mother/son brunch during our bye week. That turnout was pretty good as well.

We give them this week off (school out tomorrow). Then we go the next 2 weeks, Monday through Thursday. 830-1030 am. We lift and run 3 days and go out and practice one day. We have 1 7 on 7 against another school each week. Then they are off the week of July 4 (state requirement) then we go 2 more weeks, same basic schedule as before. Then they are off for the week of the state coaches convention. Then we come back and have 1 week before practice starts. We do a 3 day mini camp that week. What state are in coach?

Gripes about offense at 7 on 7 (The ones mentioned previously I completely agree with) 4. Holding up every play on card for your offense to run 5. Throwing the ball to the crosser that just crossed in front of (or behind) your center. 6. Not bringing a Center. Gripes about defense at 7 on 7 (not covered in previous post) 1. Playing your LBs at 9 yards and dropping on the cadence. Don't forget about all of the Cover 2 Man defenses you see at 7 on 7.

There is a company called Pro Look Sports that does fully sublimated uniforms. We ordered jerseys and compression shirts from them this year. We haven't gotten them in yet, but the designs looked awesome!

Our school has a uniform dress code. I convinced my administration to allow me to have a $1.00 "Dress Down Day". On this day our students can pay $1.00 and they don't have to be in uniform. We have a student population of about 320 in 9 - 12. the worst day we ever had was $50. We have been doing this every Friday. We have 25 Fridays in our school schedule. At our worst, we make about $1,300. It's the easiest thing to do... I set up a table in the front hallway and they come into school and hand me $1.00. I give them a different color bracelet to wear so we know who paid.

We do something very similar. We do our install and game plan on Monday. Tuesday we have a 30 minute block for offense. After Special Teams the rest is defense. On Wednesday we have a 30 minute block for defense. After Special Teams, the rest is offense. Thursday is our walkthrough.

I give this to all coaches every year, and review it with my new coaches when I agree to bring them on. Its a good starting point. Thanks for posting that info. coach. As usual, very helpful stuff.

We are looking at re-organizing as well. We have about 28 varsity players. How long have you been doing weekly practices with an offensive and defensive day? I want to go to this practice format and was looking for some input. I would also be interested in knowing what you do for your speed training on Thursdays. PM me if you would like to talk about things in more detail.

I am in year 2 of an awful program. We have little to zero support from our board. We hired a brand new coaching staff that seems very committed to turning our program around. Football is not a concern at our school. Basketball runs the show and we kind of get the shaft. We have very little parent support. Until we put a good product on the field, I don't see much changing. With all due respect, winning will just encourage the same behavior from parent and the board. You are winning with what every other coach had. No reason to change the support level. Winning doesn't promote discipline, financial support, or anything else. If you start winning, you will find it to be nothing more than stepping stl e, because they wont change. coachbry, We haven't had a winning season in our 5 years as a football program. So, there isn't a problem with winning with someone else's players. We almost have a brand new team this year, 6 returning starters. I think that winning does increase financial support (ticket sales, concession sales, more attention for fundraisers... etc.).

High School - played in a flexbone option offense College - volunteered for a multiple offense with pro style passing
Currently the Head Coach at a small 1a school in North Carolina. This is my first year at this school The last 5 years I was at a small private school in Mississippi. First 2 years as Defensive Coordinator, the last 3 years as Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator. We currently run the spread offense that utilizes an H-Back. We are a gap scheme run team with counter and power being our best two. We also run the buck sweep, wham, and speed option. Passing we are majority quick game and screen. We have a small number of dropback concepts (Drive, Double Post, Cross, All Curl) and a couple of PA Passes.
I have been on this site for several days now and I am loving everything about it. Picking up a lot of advice and knowledge from some very helpful and experienced coaches. Hopefully I will be able to help someone as well.
