Morning. Headed to a new program. They use pixellot for their game film system.
Never used it. I've only used Hudl.Anyone have experience with it? Pros, cons, anything?
Does it allow you to run reports and other features like Hudl?

Does that state of Mississippi have spring football practice? Padded practices?

This is comedy gold. I can only imagine some of the idiots that have been chosen to lead programs.

No. I've never been on that forum. I'm sure it's great. I'm going check it out. This is like a instant text messenger deal. Can add diagrams, links, and videos super easy. It's pretty cool. I was in on a pretty big triple option group through telegram and its pretty cool.

Good morning,
I have put together a new and so far relatively small group chat dedicated to the single wing. I am using the telegram app. If you are interested shoot me a DM and I'll share the invite link. Let's build a new secret society lol.

Going to NYC for spring break with the wife and son. I'm sure I'll have a couple of hours to myself while the Mrs and son to hang out with her sister and new born nephew.
I'm wondering if there are any successful HS programs within the city that are open to talking ball with visiting coaches. We are flying so transportation us limited to city wide travel.

There was this 9th grader, short chubby guy who wasn't very good. We're like 2 or 3 weeks into practice by now. He started breaking down crying in the middle of Indy drills one day. I send the other guys off for a quick water break and check on him. I say "dude what's wrong?" He responds "I just want just want to hit somebody coach, and I can't do that because of the position you got me playing."
Umm..... He was a left guard on offense and nose tackle on defense. I literally couldn't finish the conversation. He finished practice and I never saw him again.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, I didn't read every single response, but for what it's worth i remember hearing about Temple allowing the team to vote on the guys that could wear #'s 1-10. I think that's a cool idea for your skill stud type players.
I also like the idea of the points system and earning numbers, but these days kids will transfer over crap like that.I don't know if I am right or wrong and I haven't been a HC yet, but if a kid isn't playing a spring sport or working out at all, or at least enough to show up to 75% workouts then I don't think he's gonna be good for the program no matter how talented. That stuff breeds malcontents and resentment from other players.
I believe we make time for what's most important to us. And there can definitely be circumstances when compromises can be made, but if he just isn't showing up because he don't want to work, I think that's unacceptable. It won't work like that with his 9-5 once he's grown. Gotta work to eat.

Ive done it before. When I was in better shape and wanted to act like a bad *$$ I'd do it. I've been less disciplined with my own personal fitness the last few years so I don't do it as much. On wet days I like em

Tire fights, relay races carry dummies or teammates. Anything that has quick negative consequences for the losers. Not winning has to uncomfortable.

Buy the second edition Coaching the Veer Offense. All the same Football material as original minus record book-type stuff from authors' time at Stillwater (and probably cheaper too). Thanks I appreciate it coach.

Thinking of buying this book. Anybody read it? How is is? Does it go into a lot of detail with inside and outside veer. I'm assuming more outside veer since its a SBV the author coached in. Which is perfectly cool with me. Thanks for the feedback in advance.

Dead: Vince Lombardi and Bo Schembechler. I would love to just get into leadership, motivation, and culture building from these greats. Living: Steve Spurrier, would love to have a few cold ones with him and Tom Osborne.

We do a team dynamic stretch (high knees, lunges, sprint, etc) but it has always seemed like a waste of up to 15 mins to me. Do y'all just go into Indy?

Flex (stretch)

Has anyone cut out Flex? I know I've heard of programs that just go straight into a extra Indy or Fundy period. I feel like flex is a lot of the time a waste. Thoughts, opinions?

I tend to agree that being "mean" or aggressive is something you either have or don't have. I also believe that you can eventually instill competitiveness into them to a certain extent. We used competitive activities in the weight room and off season workouts. One spring we even finished every practice with "competition period". In each case the winners received a positive experience and the losers had a negative experience. Nothing crazy. Winners got water or were able to sit out on a few sprints while losers had push ups or a few extra sprints. We did non football things, and tried to get creative. Just to put them in situations where if they didn't compete and think of the run, immediate negative consequences occurred. I have had "mean" kids that didn't compete worth a flip.We live in a video game society where victory is just one reset button away. I'll take any kid who can be coached up and play & compete his tail off until the whistle stops blowing. If we can get a few with a mean streak, especially up front, then we are super excited. For those big guys up front make it special. Get em some T-Shirts, let them create a nick name for the O-Line/D-Line, things like that. If there is some success and it means something to play on the o-line there they will compete and take pride and beating their assigned man.

I think a viable option would be to increase the number of mean, stray dogs near your feeder programs to develop explosive muscle fiber in adolescents that will be growing up in your program. awesome comment!!! I thought it was cool when I read it and even tweeted this original article, but I like the idea of music in practice and the weight room to keep up tempo, intensity and get the kids used to the distractions of game day.

Ive noticed over the past few years in college ball that many programs are blasting music throughout practice, I like the idea since the college stadiums get loud, and it seems to keep the kids loose and practice moving at a good pace. Does anyone do this at the High School level?
