I take snake oil , ya know the one from the sketchy salesman pushing the cart going from town to town... of course along with my multi and fish oils lmao
Fellas there’s no magic pill or supplement and you’re prob pissing away your money and your perceived benefits away LITERALLY pissing them away.
If you wanna buy poly chain peptides and beta alanine broccoli blockers along with Ray Lewis deer antler spray be my guest... yes I’m making light and taking slight jabs all in good fun because I used to spend close to 300$ a month on all of these supps and the “latest greatest” health craze.... sure I was big and in good shape BUT I cut pretty much down to the occasional protein shake and I’m performing just as well if not better in the gym and my wallet thanks me for it. Of course as I’ve gotten older there have been life changes and body changes but all in all this is what I have learned so I figured I would share ......
DON’T be a couch potato DO break a sweat everyday DO intermittent fasting DO practice discipline ie:portion control DO take cold showers DO get proper rest DO stretch regularly DO step outside your comfort zone DON’T chase unrealistic expectations DO be your best you DON’T give a sh!t what people think
All in good fun if supps and moose poop extract work for you then Go nuts !!!

RANT ALERT—- This whole “Culture” thing is processing in my brain the way that trendy words such as “Bae” , “Fleek”, “Crunk” etc.... I wish this whole Culture thing would go the way of those words and the dinosaur...
I believe that term is extremely overrated and somewhat of a catch all buzzword to make it seem like we are “doing the right thing”.... this whole “culture” craze is nothing new . To me it’s just rebranding and renaming important program quantifiers such as , character, respect, effort, brotherhood, perseverance etc.... all under the guise of sounding modern and new, like a real program changer... This doesn’t make you a good Coach to throw that word around , newsflash if you don’t believe or didn’t believe that a program needed all those characteristics prior to the culture craze then you’re doing it wrong and should probably find a new profession.
I guess culture is a hot buzzword to say all of the above but it’s been here since leather helmets so let’s not act like this is new and revolutionary .... there a ton of Coaches cashing in on this trend and there’s nothing wrong with that but it all becomes a bit stale IMO.
I feel like Peter Griffin “You know what grinds my gears?”
I get it and I’m completely on board with culture but as with many words the more it’s thrown around it’s effectiveness and power is greatly diminished
RANT COMPLETE
Have a great day

Looking at making the switch to these or even the 5 pad model (don’t want to forget knee pads on game days so most likely 7 pad). Anyone have any experience using these ....?
Was thinking about having the players purchase their own... saves all the boxes of random squishy pads all over the place , mismatches , missing sets , and allows us to eliminate the need for practice pants all together as we would just wear our “pride” shorts over the girdle for most practices .
Anyone recommend a brand or rep?
Thanks

Does anyone do anything unique ?
I am certainly not a fan of the let’s line up and clap and count and try to out shout the other team style of warm up...No BS this was a 15-20min waste of time at my last stop.. I get that it has its place as maybe a mental motivator and all that rah -rah type stuff. I’m looking for something efficient and effective , maybe somewhat unconventional?
If anyone would like to share what they do or point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated.
Basically when your whole team is on the field together for the first time what do you do first... warm up by groups, as a whole team or something else...

1) No one cares about what it takes to be a (insert mascot/team name)
2) contact slide at the beginning and again at the end
3) keep the history brief , no one cares that you won your peewee football league mvp when you were 8 yrs old lol
4) get to the meat and potatoes, too often theres a ton of small talk , fluff, and filler to consume time.
5) if you use film DOWNLOAD it to your hard drive DO NOT rely on Hudl to be smooth or the venue WiFi to function smooth
6) Don’t just show the times something worked , show the good and the bad and the WHY of the outcome .
6. Save time for questions at the end.

Additionally and excuse my ignorance .... what exactly is the function of the handle y’all are talking about ?
Do you tie a string to it and simulate line action such as a down block or pull???

Side track- We bought 15 cans at Runnings: got them to the field used them for both Varisty and freshmen, came back the next day and they were spread out all over the practice and game facility with garbage bags in them. Took us 10 minutes to gather them all back to the practice area and get the liners out. Put them in a shed and came back the next day only to find them all over again with a nasty note from the grounds keeper about trying to hide his garbage cans. Thought if I talked to him in person it would be cleared up easily. Instead he was flipping me off from 50 yards away and wouldn't take his ear phones off to listen. Next day the cans were spread out again but now they were zip tied to fences and even a tree. Camp ends and I seek out the building and grounds director...he walks me back to a storage area and points to 15 cans exactly like we bought- they were supposed to be placed at the field but the grounds keeper said he already had them...took them home spray pained them with green paint and didn't have another issue(Grounds keeper retired at the end of the summer). Similar thing happened to me , construction was being don on our new clubhouse and all the construction workers decided it would be cool to just take them as if they were their own even though 15 trash cans in stacks of five along side the football equipment area would probably clue them in??? So going out to set up blitz review period they were all scattered throughout the worksite , found some nasty stuff in em, porn mags, nip containers spit bottles even actual beer cans ?? Lol so apparently work for them was just a continuation of the party. So I asked nicely one time, got blown off , asked nicely a second time got blown off... well three strikes and you’re out with me . Took all the contents of the barrels and emptied it in their site trailer and cabs of their construction vehicles ... I think after that they got the messege .... some things could be so simple if people weren’t such D bags ... anyway the AD had to end up getting involved and it was finally squashed .

I’m saying if you call yourself a man and constantly take belittling and personal /physical attacks from anyone regardless or rank/position then you might as well throw a skirt on because you cannot call yourself a man or you tolerate it or suck up to advance .... not me, never will be, not built that way.
Trying to make a joke and now I’m “That guy” explaining the joke so hint taken lol
Apparently no one is up to date on Targets bathroom policies jeeeeez guys get with the program lol ... was there with my daughter and literally saw a man in a dress come strolling outta the ladies restroom like it was business as usual ... my daughter needed to go , let’s just say I took her to the dunkin dounuts across the street... anyway moving on

People feel they have a license to speak to people this way now because no one get smacked in the mouth anymore. It pretty much comes down to general human decency ... if you feel that you need to speak to another man this way on the regular either fire him because he’s not getting it done for you or look at yourself in the mirror because there is something seriously wrong with you. If you are an assistant and tolerate it then I have no sympathy for you . Obviously you can’t just go around smacking everyone who gets lippy with you but if you have a pair there is only so much a man can take until he starts wearing dresses and using the women’s room at target. Okay, you took a weird turn there at the end. But I do wonder as an assistant where the line is that you have the right to defend yourself without it being seen defiant to the program goals. Being on the same page definitely doesn’t mean taking unwarranted verbal abuse so the hc can relieve his frustration and anger. Hahaha 😂😂😂. Yeah there is getting ripped which is part of the job for sure. Most of the time it is justified and effective to get a point across. If you can’t take that then you should prob not be a Coach. The line is drawn when it becomes personal , attacking someone as a man , their character, putting your hand on someone, talking about their families or personal situations that don’t have to do with football to illicit a response. That’s when enough is enough ... I think season 2 of last chance U is a prime example when Buddy Stevens says something about his OC’s wife or marriage (don’t remember the exact words) but I was like DAAAAAMN!!! That would be it for me right there . As someone stated earlier in the thread , the constant little man syndrome or being loud just to be loud after a while you just get tuned out and are the end of people’s jokes ....

We take about 25 GD minutes and it drives me up a frikin Wall!!! . That old school take a warm up lap, rah rah rah “who are we clap clap clap , ok everyone bend over and touch your toes 1-2-3 clap clap clap, who are we? Rah rah rah get a breakdown..ok everyone to the sideline so I can talk to you for another 10 mins. THEN and only then when everyone feels important enough can we start practice so before practice officially starts we have been on the field almost 1hour (pre practice /Cals/ sideline chats etc....
Everyone is always looking for more time here and there and that’s the first place I can think to shave off some minutes.... we don’t want to break tradition or offend the trainer and the HC would rather hide away down at the field than be at home with his family so rather than get out of the 80’s with the Bob Jovi blasting and move to the current time of dynamic/fluid FAST warmups we all sit there with our thumbs in our butts watching this year after year. the Moral of the story is we are ON the field anywhere from 2.5 to 3 hours and this DOES NOT include film ....needless to say Coaches find other jobs very quickly or completely burn out here.
I believe that if you don’t have a solution and just constantly B!tch then you should just stop talking so I Typed up a practice plan that fit more of a current climate of footballs schedule which was reviewed by all other staff and approved of unanimously then brought it up to the HC who looked like we kicked his dog and the amount of salt he was throwing could fill up the Dead Sea ...... extremely pleasant work environment 😉
Its been good to get into this profession but I cannot fathom how much time I have literally wasted for pure stubbornness , everything turned into a D!ck swinging contest.. It would be one thing if this were just me but the staff turnover from year to year here is the justification for my tangent lol ok rant over ....
I have definitely learned what NOT to do and I’m thankful for that

Public HS who "recruit" and have shady backroom deals in order to stock their roster and Poach local talent away from schools FOR YEARS!!!
Private schools I get it they have things to offer kids and then that's all gravy but public schools that have "apartments" and other grey area loopholes drive me bananas

Buddy seems like a real turd burger, would have hated him as a Coach and now as a boss. Seems to be a self serving ego maniac with little to no self control and is very disconnected from how society functions... very do as I say not as I do example and from my calculations everything a "leader" is not.

Hello, I am fairly new to coaching but do not consider myself a rookie to the "x and o" game. I coach at the HS level. I started as a frosh assistant and entering my 3rd year am on the cusp of becoming the D/C at the varsity level. My positional groups are DBs/WRs.
Offensively we are a "pistol" spread team.
Defensively we base out of 4-3 over quarters but also will jump in a under front and sprinkle in 3-3-5.
My passion is Dbs and defense.
My playing career consisted of grade school, HS, JC and Div 3 ball(safety)
I am here to LEARN and to share info with any coach about any and all aspects of football and everything it encompasses ie: X's n O's, program building, interacting w/ players .
Glad to be a part of this forum and look forward to interacting with all of you.
Thanks and good luck!
