They're closed down now or bought out or something.
We've had a few and haven't been able to find anyone to do them.

Unexcused absence is suspension from the game that week. In four years here we've never had a second incident in the same season.

Coastal school we played when I was in high school in VA - Christ Church Fighting Seahorses.
Not many in SC - as somebody said mostly animals. We do have the Shamrocks which I kind of like - they're not lucky in terms of their football history though.

Along with what CS said depends on opponent/style of game but
1) within 2 possessions at the end would be close so 16 if you can get 2 pt conversions 2) three scores so 17+ 3) anything with a running clock, for our state I think its 40 in the second half
Can I be nosy? Just curious as to the origin of the question ha

We do our Thursday practice before school - we also start much later that most high schools so we start at 7:00 am and it goes for about 45 mins so it's not terribly early.
After school Thursday is study for those that are required to be there. All others have the afternoon off. I can see reasons for both ways, but this is what works for us.

I don't think I can stay away for more than a few days.
I don't do anything "structured" so to speak.
Lot of watching film looking at individual players, what techniques work for them, what don't. What we did well, what we didn't. Just basically a big brainstorm session until we get back from winter break.

I'm trying something new this year. Instead of women's clinic. We are doing a family night. They come in. Quick meeting/film. Go through some stuff with the players. All are welcome, moms, dads, little brothers and sisters.
Our position coaches are going to try and get the players to actually teach some the techniques, test their grasp of the stuff etc.

This isn’t exactly what OP was asking. But we recognize a scout team offensive and defensive player of the week in front of the team each Monday. They get a free combo at the local McDonald’s. We have starters begging to get in on scout team. Hell, I'd foot the bill on that. You never get any flack for that from admin or parents, right? None. We actually get them for free. I just went in and asked for a manager. Told them we'd call our little cheerleading halftime show sponsored by McDonalds.

I'll throw in a vote for Riddell. We've got the basic generic ones, not the ones with the sleeve issues. Sleeves are short but pads don't hang out. They have been awesome, and kids like them. Wash extremely well too. We've only had to replace a couple in 3 years.

I understand that, but it goes around the outside of our field which is also the outside border of our campus. I'd like it to appear better and show that we have some pride in our campus.

Moderators - move this to the correct section if I have it in the wrong place.
We have a terrible rusted chain link fence around our field. Anyone have any experience with a fairly large project like this?
Some have said prime it and paint it ourselves, others say replace it bc it's not worth the labor. Any suggestions/experiences would be greatly appreciated.

We buy them and let them keep them every couple years. It's really not all that expensive... If you get it timed right with Badger/Riddell/Russell/Allison they all make a good workout shirt and shorts and at some point each year a deal that you can get for about $15-20 bucks total for top and bottom. We give ours everything they need, but none of it goes home with them. We wash and dry at school.

Dad's going to expect something in return. There is no such thing as free. I was thinking the exact same thing...for your sake, Coach, I hope that kid can play, or you might have a longggg season of "I spent 35k on helmets, so is Johnny sitting on the sidelines"

Got one like that...we are playing a team that starts with "W"...long bus ride we arrive 2 hours early and let the players walk around to stretch their legs before going to the locker room. Our guys are walking down the visitors side of the field, walking by the midfield logo (not knowing several of his coaches are almost directly behind him) exclaims "D@mn that's a biga$$ phuggin "M" "

We don't have it. But I think it would be a good idea. We do ours on maxpreps/hudl - you can import them from spreadsheets. I'm the HC and I go back and do every stat from film the morning after the game. I try to be hard on our guys so that the stats are as accurate as possible - so our tackles/assists and stuff are probably a little under what they should be. We had a kid in our league this year with 235 tackles...his dad was the entering their teams stats.

We rotate between baked chicken, spaghetti or hamburger steak. We throw in a roll and mashed potatoes and some salad. We just use the gatorade mix in big cooler for drinks.

So do you have all of your players the last period? I've heard of schools doing this, but never been at one. Is this labeled a football class? Does it just count as a typical PE credit for the student? I assume they signup for the class in the spring, what if a player quits mid-summer, is he removed from the class? I assume you wouldn't want regular students/players that quick sitting in on film. It counts as an elective class. We do not have PE in the high school where I am. In the fall - it is explained to parents that if they want to be in the class they will lift and watch film, regardless of whether or not they play football. Once football season over, it basically turns into a weight lifting class - you don't lift, you're looking for another elective. Ours takes care of itself and we are a little different in some respects. We have 30 out of 33 eligible males in the high school playing football. So there's basically nobody who doesn't. The old school I was at, if you quit or didn't play football, you were expected to participate fully in all activities or you would be removed from the class.

The INVESTMENT has to be applied to your lower levels (8th, 9th, JV) and not neglected by throwing slappys to oversee them. This answer is the real gold. I hired our JV staff I hired high energy guys that wanted to be there. Had to teach them exactly what I wanted them to do, but they were there with the understanding that we are trying to build a program. Same with the elementary program. We've got that luxury bc we are k-12. I plan on going back to public school at some point, and I don't think I'd ever take a HC job if I'm lucky enough to be offered without being able to have input from the youth level up. When I (first year HC) showed up at the first JV game, a person I'd never met before walked up to me shook my hand and said "You're the first HC I have seen at a JV game in 5 years"...and they wondered why they were a perfect example of mediocrity... Also as brophy said PE class is where it's at. Get them playing sports in PE. Balls skills/hand eye coordination or lack there of aren't accidents once they get to the HS level.

We are a tiny tiny school. Had 30 on the team this year grades 9-12.
We spend probably more time watching film that most teams do, but I believe it pays off. We practice on the field for 1 hr 45 mins Monday-Wednesday, and Thursday is a perfect day normally an hour.
Monday: Lift last period. Film of previous Friday nights game at 4 pm. Practice from 5-6:45. Tuesday: Watch Monday's practice film and week's opponent offense last period. Practice from 5-6:45 Wednesday: Lift last period. Film of Tuesday's practice and opponents defense at 4 pm. Practice from 5-6:45. Thursday: Watch Wed practice opponent film. Practice 2:45-3:45 Friday: Watch opponent last period.
Our guys had never watched film before I got here this year. After first spring practice we filmed our next practice was how to watch film correctly. Blew their mind but they began to love it. We also put it up on HUDL so they can watch on their own. By the end of season you have kids start to bring you there phone with plays pulled up asking questions. Love it.
