Put a JV WR late in mop up duty once. He lines up two yards offsides. Penalty.
Of course he is on their side of the field and cannot hear any of us yelling for him to back up and align properly. The penalty is enforce and both the offense and defense move back 5 yards yards. Except for him. He is now 7 yards pass the LOS and collects another penalty.

I don't understand. Are you saying Dave Aranda is an "idiot"? No some young coach who worships Aranda and pretty much claims to be an expert on his defense despite having coached like 2 years Thought there was something I was missing with guys. Glad to know I'm not alone.

Yes it is emphasized heavily. Year 1- we asked the kids to do it on their time...big mistake as they had no idea what they were looking at. I considered that a coaching fail as they were never taught how to watch it. Year 2 and beyond- current schedule of film is: Monday - Meetings and Film for 2hrs, but optional continuation of film that sometimes goes for another hr or 2. Tuesday- post-practice film session for 30 mins - OL/QBs, LB/DL Wednesday- post-practice film session for 30 mins - QBs/WR/RB, LB Thursday- post-practice team dinner and film session for 20-30mins - mixed offense, DBs Friday- pre-game meetings with short film 10mins - SPT, followed by Def/Off Are you practicing on Mondays or just meetings?

Carpet tape to hold the pads and jersey together? Do they have that weird lineman cut on the jersey where there is almost no sleeve? We just got new Riddell jerseys this year. They look awesome. We had the same problem as lochness. Called my sales rep and he came by with a roll of carpet tape. Put on each part of the flaps shoulder pad and press the jerseys down. It held up pretty well and looked great. Give it a try.

I would just reach out to the coach early in the week and see if they are OK with it. That way they can work some cut protection during the week and be ready for Friday. Will give your guys a better look at it too. Alex Gibbs would say, "If you tackle, I cut" I agree. Do you have a relationship with the staff you are scrimmaging? If so it shouldn't be an issue to work out. We often ise quick whistles on QBs in our scrimmages as well as avoiding cutting (I have a pretty good relationship with all the staffs we scrimmage). That said it is a legal block. Do what you need to do.

If this player blew off in season stuff then yes we would penalize him. What we don't do, but NEED to start doing is have some incentives. There have been some very good threads on here about how to increase attendance, when you can't make it mandatory. One great idea i read on here was having permanent lifting groups in the off season and each group has to accumulate a certain number of weight. If you're group has no shows, then you will not hit your goal and not win the incentives. I'm going to lay out a plan for my HC and see what happens. I really feel that the players holding each other accountable lacks greatly from December to June for us, but the staff doesn't get on kids as much as they would during summer lifting either. When the summer lifting comes around, all of a sudden every kid wants to show up and hold each other accountable. We need to get that to happen earlier in the year, not June 24th. I think you nailed it here. Some nice incentives, T-Shirts, food, etc. involving groups would be a good start. I think once you got it rolling with incentives the whole thing would become contagious. Good luck to you coach with making it happen.

No we don't have to play them. Once our season starts the best players play. Sometimes that means a kid who never went to off season workouts starts. Our evaluations for starters, back-ups...the depth chart, starts when our season officially starts which is mid-august. Do you feel like there is accountability in your offseason program? You basically have no way to hold kids accountable. This doesn't hurt your program? I'm not saying anything you are saying or doing is wrong. Just interested in the approach and what your off seasons are like.

We can't punish kids for anything they miss in the off season. And if they quit, they get to start a whole new slate come next season if they wish. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using proboards Nobody can force you to actually play a kid who doesn't show up can they? If you were truly committed to playing those who put in the work I think the kids would see that. I'm sure it would lead to some drama/politics, but can the adminstration force you to play kids who didn't show up?

Just curious as to how budgeting is handled at some your schools. Do you get a % of gates and concessions?
At my current school, football had concessions signed away to the band and the gates all go into one big pot for athletics. There is no set % that each school gets from gates. This makes budgeting difficult as you never know how much money you have.

He's good but it doesn't look to me like he's playing against any comparable level of competition. When you are that big and athletic in the 8th grade, you typically won't play against a comparable level of competition.
