wing t.... so a little different
we install by series, belly, buck, jet, with basic formations
Then sprinkle in the formations once we have the blocking rules down from a basic set.

I think this new generation is sooooooo scared of being ridiculed or failure that they wont take a chance if theres a possibility of being unsuccessful.
We are battling losing incoming sophomores because they won't be starters on varsity and may be "2nd in line"
Same way hardly anyone runs against anyone in student council elections...they may lose!!! We had one position that there was an actual vote for last year.
Maybe its just our small/rural/poor school, but it seems to be a generational push in more ways than one.

Dont know if this one's been covered yet. But people showing up late for meetings before school. ESPECIALLY when it's the person who called it or admin we are waiting on. Seems to be the IEP variety the most.
I have a class to get ready people!

Just stumbled in here.... I'm more impressed with pitching the ball on option and then getting in front to truck the corner. LOVE THAT!!!!

I go box because I can see better than anybody can describe it to me. AND I am away from the emotion of the field.

Went fishing with my old man one time. I remember making a few casts and then getting frustrated that the fish weren't biting. I was changing my lure every 10 casts. (which takes some time). Meanwhile my dad was catching fish.
As I complained loudly about what was wrong, unfair, etc. (making excuses) My old man calmly stated "you can't catch a fish if your line isnt in the water".
I've probably applied that line to my life more than anything else.
Lesson: throw your hat in there, and be around. Something good just might happen. Dont be so easily frustrated and a wishy-washy.

It's kind of a toss up of what you want from a youth/MS program as a High school guy. I think there are 2 possible "focuses" (if thats a word). It would obviously be nice to have both 1 and 2, but sometimes the amount of quality "help" to be found is an issue. At all levels if I might add.
1) You want them to run your offense. They can come into your program hearing the same plays/blocking rules/etc. REPS are king and the earlier they start getting them the better. Gets the kids bought in and more comfortable. Less thinking when they get to high school means playing faster.
2) OR do you want them to learn your fundamentals? Your blocking progression and terminology. Your tackling progression and terminology? Your circuits and daily drills? Your footwork, your get-offs, etc.
I see the benefit of both, but I'd probably prefer number 2 if forced to decide. Give me kids that can block and tackle correctly and we will teach them our scheme. Blocking and tackling are vital at all levels and schemes.

Well, it looks like the Coach's Choice content isn't part of the Glazier package anymore. Maybe it hasn't been for a while, but I swear I remember that being the case at some point. Glazier just made the switch at the new year So they sold the glazier subscription as coming with the coaches choice videos available via efootballflix. THEN, as soon as actual clinic season comes around, they kaibosh the coaches choice and switch it to some AFM videos? Thats pretty bait and switchy......

I think that it is very important and not as easy as some might think. The best thing that I have done is to number the skill positions 1-5 on your play cards and then assign a number to each of your scout backs so there is less confusion on where to line up. That is always our biggest problem. Not lining up or not knowing what route to run so I try to number the backs when I can or point to each position and say a name when we are in the huddle if I didnt have time to number them... I hope this makes sense This is exactly what I do. Numbers, and somehow it still gets them confused....hahaha

My dad was a coach, so I grew up in it. When I first started (not that I'm an old timer by any means now) I tried to follow these couple rules. I tried to remind myself of these.
1) Keep your mouth shut and dont offer advice unless someone asks. NOTHING worse than a new guy, know it all. And believe it or not people will ask eventually. NOBODY asks the dude who always has an opinion.
2) Be at EVERYTHING. Every meeting (even if you arent on varsity staff, ask the HC if you can listen in to learn) every practice, every workout, etc. You have to EARN the respect of your fellow coaches as well as the kids who don't know you.
3) Do anything asked. If you are asked to do film practice, paint lockers, wash laundry, etc. DO IT. and DO IT RIGHT.
4) If you think you should be on the varsity staff instead of Frosh DC. Do the job you were hired for. I didnt realize until now how important it is to not have slappys at the lower level. Maybe you can be counted on so you were placed down there. Where some other guy is on the varsity staff (but a dingleberry) where the OC/DC/HC can watch him while he coaches a position.
Just thoughts....
I'm glad our current staff gets along really well.

At football camp we were installing formations; one of which has the SE and TE on the same side. So we had just gone over how the TE was ineligible and all that.
So I ask "who is ineligible?" out loud to the team as a reminder, and one of our kids who failed a class last semester puts his hand in the air and says "I AM COACH".
The kids lost it and couldnt stop laughing for probably 5 minutes.
